Exposition on the Book of Psalms (Volume I - Psalms 1-36). by Saint Augustine of Hippo (354 - 430). Translated by Anonymous

The Book of Psalms is commonly known as the Psalms or the Psalter, and is divided into five sections, each closing with a doxology. The title is derived from the Greek translation, ψαλμοί (psalmoi) meaning "instrumental music" and, by extension, "the words accompanying the music". Most if not all are thought be composed by King David. The Psalms have always been an integral part of the prayers of the Christian church and especially among monks, who would generally chant all psalms in a week-long cycle. There have been many commentaries on the Psalms, but none perhaps more famous and widely used than St. Augustine's. This first volume covers the Psalms (1 - 36). ( ancientchristian)

  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I was thinking of setting this up for you, and I know you've been waiting for an MC for a couple of days already. But now, taking a closer look at it, it looks like it's not public domain after all. This edition was printed in 1995, as you can see here: https://ccel.org/ccel/schaff/npnf108/npnf108/Page_ii.html

I'll see if I can find an older edition.

How about this one?

https://archive.org/details/expositionsonboo24augu/page/n11/mode/2up

And then changing it to Exposition on the Book of Psalms (Volume I - Psalms 1-36). I think 400 pages is probably plenty anyway.

Well, I found one. https://archive.org/details/selectlibraryofn08auguuoft/

Not quite as easy to read, but definitely public domain. How does this look to you?

You only want 20 sections? Are you planning to combine some of the psalms together? Or would you prefer one section for each psalm?

Well, I set it up with 20, but you can always add sections if you need to. Let me know if you need a reminder of how to do that. I'm assuming you're looking for a DPL, since I didn't see you name one, so I added a tilde to your topic heading.

When you've got the MW filled in and are ready to move to Going Solo, please let me know.

20 sections is fine. Yes please put that ~ there. I'm in need of a PL. I haven't found anybody yet that really likes my voice.

Hi there,
I had some free time today so I've PL'ed section 1 and it is PL OK.
I can't offer to be your DPL yet, but if you are still in need of a DPL by the end of the week I'll try and PL more sections if they're in the MW.

Betty
I'll update the MW in a moment.
