Commentary on the Gospel of Luke sermons 47-56 by Cyril of Alexandria (c. 376 - 444). Translated by Robert Payne Smith (1818 - 1895)

Sermons 47 - 56 cover the Gospel According to Saint Luke 9:1-56. ( The Reader)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.tertullian.org/fathers/cyril_on_luke_05_sermons_47_56.htm
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hello, Pattymarie! Here's section 04: https://librivox.org/uploads/chocoholic/commentaryonlukesermons47thru56_04_cyrilofalexandria_128kb.mp3 14:31

All the rest will be about this length. I've inserted a "translator's note" in this one, because by itself it really took a while to understand St Cyril's understanding of a key verse. For me, anyway, it was unusual -- not opposed to what I believe, but somehow expressed differently. In fact, now I have a different appreciation for the verse.

Thank you!
Peace be with you,
Sister

Sections 3, 4, and 5 are PL OK. :)

Yes, that is an interesting new take from the way I've always understood that verse. It seems it might be translated, in Cyril's view, as something like, "He who reverences me and my word, I will honor him...."

Sections 6 and 7 are PL OK. Section 7 sent me to the text over "Simeon" instead of Simon, but that's how the text has it.

That surprised me as well, as that pronunciation is used for others.
Peace be with you,
