Pollyanna marries sweetheart Jimmy Pendleton, and together they move to start their married life in Boston. The book follows their many adventures of marriage, setting up home in a new city, having visitors, and many other events, including Jimmy's signing up to fight during WWI. Throughout the uplifting book, Pollyanna continues to play her characteristic 'Glad Game' and tries to encourage others to do the same. ( )
Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard
IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated). Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!
The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording! START of recording (Intro):
"Chapter [number] of Pollyanna of the Orange Blossoms. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
Say: "Pollyanna of the Orange Blossoms, by Harriet Lummis Smith. [Chapter]"
For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
"Chapter [number] of Pollyanna of the Orange Blossoms by Harriet Lummis Smith. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
Only if applicable, say: "[Chapter title]"
END of recording:
At the end of the section, say: "End of [Chapter]"
If you wish, say: "Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
At the end of the book, say (in addition): "End of Pollyanna of the Orange Blossoms, by Harriet Lummis Smith. "
There should be ~5 seconds silence at the end of the recording.
Example filename pollyanna_##_smith_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. pollyanna_01_smith_128kb.mp3)
Transfer of files (completed recordings) Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file. Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.
Upload your file with the LibriVox Uploader: https://librivox.org/login/uploader
(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin)
You'll need to select the MC, which for this project is: m8b1
When your upload is complete, you will receive a link - please post it in this thread.
Thank you Maria and Cadastra - I have added the first 3 chapters that I have managed to do so far.
The old fashionedness of this book makes me smile...

Section 1 PL notes:
-Incorrect filename (should be "pollyanna_01_smith_128kb.mp3")
-Too much silence at the beginning of the recording (no more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence; currently, there are 2 seconds of silence)
No worries about the file name! I just shortened it in the template so that it wouldn't be so cumbersome. Long is fine if you want ~ I can always just change them at cataloging time.

Lovely reading. Thanks for letting me listen!
Great thank you - I am much relieved to see it is an easy correction !
I have fixed the three files and reuploaded with better filenames now.
My goodness, this is such a charming story. I had heard good things about the Pollyanna books, but this is the first one I've read. Your voice really brings the story to life. I am so glad that Gregory's adventure in Chapter 3 ended well.
Sections 1 and 2 are PL OK.
Section 3 PL notes:
0:07 - Stumble ("all LibriVox recordings are in the public . . . main" - the "do" part of "domain" is missing)
07:39 - Stumble ("cheated out of the ri . . . universal right")
09:41 - Misread "whistled Jimmy" as "whistled Timmy"

Thank you Quite a strange little story but quite captivating all the same
I say Timmy about 1 out of every 4 attempts - haha...
Hopefully fixed those 3 areas and have now reuploaded chapter 3 x
Section 4 PL notes:
13:20 Stumble ("in a tone nicely balanced between contrition and cont . . . congratulation")
13:30 5 seconds of silence needed at end of file (currently only 2 seconds)
Section 5 PL notes:
11:35 Repeat ("so it should have the adv . . . advantage")
15:40 5 seconds of silence needed at end of file (currently only 1 second)
Section 6 PL notes:
15:55 Hesitation ("Pa told me that t'wasn't much bigger than a good-sized dry-goods box")
20:04 5 seconds of silence needed at end of file (currently only 3 seconds)
Section 7 PL notes:
6:46-6:51 Loud background noise
9:55 Stumble ("Are you the lady [unintelligible word] of the house?")
18:36 5 seconds of silence needed at end of file (currently only 2 seconds)
P.S. I was double-checking my notes for your files in my living room this evening. A family member of mine walked by and said, "Wow! I LOVE that reader!" Nice job!

Thank you so much for listening and for the encouragement - I'm flattered that your family found me listenable
I have fixed the above mistakes - so many tongue twisters in this book
Sections 4, 5, 6, 8, and 9 are PL OK! Wow, you're on a roll. The only issue is that Section 7 is now 78.6 dB (acceptable volume range 87-91 dB). I'm not sure if I missed this at first or if something happened when you edited the file, but it needs to be amplified. Other than that, you're good to go.

Ah yep hmm - I remember now - I still had Chapter 7 open on my desktop when I edited - so edited the old version before MP3Gain. Should hopefully be ok now.
Will try another chapter soon when the kids are quiet enough.
