A Passage to India by E. M. Forster (1879 - 1970).

Volunteers outside the USA: E.M. Forster died in 1970. The author's work is still protected by copyright in places, like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years and Australia (author's death plus 70 years for authors who died after 1955).
A Passage to India (1924) is a novel by English author E. M. Forster set against the backdrop of the British Raj and the Indian independence movement in the 1920s. The story revolves around four characters: Dr. Aziz, his British friend Mr. Cyril Fielding, Mrs. Moore, and Miss Adela Quested. During a trip to the fictitious Marabar Caves (modeled on the Barabar Caves of Bihar), Adela thinks she finds herself alone with Dr. Aziz in one of the caves (when in fact he is in an entirely different cave), and subsequently panics and flees; it is assumed that Dr. Aziz has attempted to assault her. Aziz's trial, and its run-up and aftermath, bring to a boil the common racial tensions and prejudices between Indians and the British who rule India. (Wikipedia)

I have changed this project from a solo to a dramatic reading.
I would like a DPL if anyone is interested. :D

All set.

It looks like you have BCd before, so can access the MW and know how to edit the first post. Just let me know if that's not the case, or if you have problems.

You'll see I added copyright info at the top (I'm assuming you are not on Europe or Australia...) mainly as a note to potential DPLs.
Any other questions, just let me know.

Stav, is this Public Domain for you? Forster died in 1970, only 50 years ago, and it looks like Israel is a death+70 country.

Edit: not to worry, Stav... you’re OK.

How do you know I am ok? I read the law and I think I can do it. But if it is a problem I would back out. There are other critirias I relyed on. I read the law for about an hour before signing up. But I could always listen to the finish product if there is any doubt.

I checked with other admins... it’s because you only listen, not read the files. The consensus was that as you are blind, PD rules don’t apply to you.

I thought so too. But if you think it is too provocative or dangerous let me know.

Thanks, Lynnet and Stav!

I have actually only acted as BC for one-act plays in collections, so I haven't had to edit the Magic Window myself yet. But I'm sure there are some instructions here on our forum for me to follow.

I've started by following the instructions on this page:

Soloists: How to update the Magic Window
https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Soloists:_How_to_update_the_Magic_Window

Do I understand correctly that I will have two logins? A general login and Login for BCs & MCs? Or do I just use the second login for everything?

I followed the instructions and was able to edit the Magic Window, so I think I'm okay. I'll let you know if I have any questions, Lynnet.
Thanks again!

Yes, you will have two logins, but the BC login should work for most things.

Here are the instructions I give first-time BCs... as you have already managed to access the MW, you can ignore that part 8-) 8-)

First of all, near the top of the first post, probably to the right but it may be fairly central, depending on your browser, you will see a stubby little pencil icon. That is so you can edit the first post.

A few things to note:

At some point, you will need to edit the summary. What you have is fine for now, but a summary from Wikipedia isn't Public Domain, so we can't use it. You can wait until you know more about the book... I always find asking questions a good idea: "What did Mary see in the empty room? How did John solve the problem? Did Jane overcome her parents' objections and marry Harry?"

Next, that whole section on id tags can be deleted. It's a throwback to our old software and anything you enter gets over-written. And it can cause problems at cataloguing,,, I've only had problems a couple of times, but I had to go through deleting them all (which took ages!)

You can change the file name at this point, but in this case, I wouldn't.

Here are the instructions for logging in to the MW. It is the same for a DPL as for a BC. Please note, this only gives you access to the MW for projects where you are DPL or BC.

Accessing the System – First Time Login
1. Use this Link to go the main login screen: http://librivox.org/workflow
2. Click on Login (for BCs & MCs)
3. Enter your forum username.
4. Click “Forgot Password”
5. You will receive an email with a link to reset your password. Click the link and enter a password and submit the form. (Note this should be more secure than your 'regular' password)
6. Go back to the main login screen and use the new password you entered above to log in to the system.
7. When you log in from the main screen above, you will be taken to the LibriVox Management Dashboard default screen where you should see a list of your active projects along with options for dropdown menus, searching and editing your profile. (more on this later)
For more explicit step by step directions with screen shots, please see Accessing the System - First Time Login
NOTE: BCs should use their personal workflow login to upload files. If you recently logged in with the general login to upload files to a project and the system still had you logged in, you may see this:
You don't have permissions for this area.
Return to Librivox Management Tool Homepage
Logout
To remedy this, click Logout and then login with your BC login and password.

Please note, this doesn't always work the first time.

If you are still having trouble after 3 or 4 attempts, PM knotyouraveragejo

The MW is probably straightforward...
I started entering the titles, to show you how it's done. No need for chapter numbers. Hit enter when you have finished typing. You can either go through entering them all now, or as you go on, one chapter at a time.

I have entered you as reader for all sections.

The notes column is where you put the time for each file. In this column, you have to 'save'.

Paste your URL from the uploader in the Listen URL column, hit enter. The Link column is automatically populated when you do this.

The status column is a drop-down menu. Remember to change the status whenever you upload a file. That triggers a message to Your DPL.

There is no need to paste the link in the thread, as you would for a group project, although many soloists do. Just post "I've uploaded chapter 8" will suffice.

I think that's it. Any questions, please ask.
Have fun!

Oh yes, one more thing. It's on your schedule, but if life happens and you don't post for a couple of months, please post in the thread "I've been busy but still working on it" or something similar, so I don't think you've been abducted by aliens, and abandon the project .

I just wanted to post an update here. I've recorded 2 chapters, but I'm still trying to decide if I can commit to the accents. I've been reading the narrator with my natural American accent, but I'm trying to do British and Indian English for the characters and I'm not sure if I can keep it constant for the whole book. I'm going to play around with it a little more before I make my final decision. But I will be able to post several chapters with no dialogue soon, I hope.
