Downloaded and I will PL as soon as I can. Typically, all my PL projects come alive at once, and then we have some end-of-the-month things going on. Looking forward to it.

Okay, Section 6 is PL OK. Just great, all the way around.

Yeah, I have more time, but less quiet time with everyone else all at home!

Progress report: I have my rough edit for chapter 7 just about finished. I'm getting a bit faster at this - for this chapter I only had to record the whole thing 3 times and found all the right words - in the proper order - in at least one of those takes. Now I just have to edit out the 1000 or so clicks and pops my vocal cords contribute, add the intercom effect, and fiddle with volumes throughout.

F.Y.I., there's a typo in this chapter - at one point it talks of an emergency on Mars (should be on Titan). I read it the way Gutenberg has it. Presumably they checked and rechecked - and made it match the 1954 printed edition.

Great job!
Still love the intercom voices!

In general, there is not a need to record an entire chapter over. Usually most of it can be done in the editing process, and sometimes recording a sentence or phrase, even if it doesn't match exactly. You can wear yourself out otherwise. I don't know what mouth noises, etc., that you are editing out. It does sound good, but natural breath sounds can certainly be left in. (I'm prone to lip smacks though, and the occasional heavy breath, so do understand). But, in the end, do whatever you're comfortable with. This is going to be a fine audio book!

Yay, I'm 1/3 done!

My personal goal is to get the reading word for word correct. I pretty much treated the first and second reads as on-mic rehearsals - by the final time through I had the inflections mostly as I wanted them (but I did go back to a previous take here and there when I dropped or substituted a word or two.

In the next chapter Tom gets (space)shipwrecked. Stand by for disaster!

Chapter 9 has arrived

The cliffhanger continues. We still don't know if Tom survives or not.
This chapter claims Deimos has enough atmosphere for wings to work - and also to safely open an airlock chamber. I don't believe it.

PL OK - but anxiety for the opening of that air lock! I don't think there is much atmosphere - or gravity - on that little moon.

I thought I was going to get a block of time to record my tracks for chapter 10 - and a thunderstorm rolled through. I didn't think I could pass off the BOOMs as the sound of turbopumps for the atomic motors.

I may have a delay here - my mic interface (Alesis IO2) seems to have gone wonky. I'm getting DC offset and a highly asymmetrical waveform when I try to record. Yes, I have tried a power down/power up. Sigh.

I'll be searching for a replacement interface and not some USB mic, as I don't want to change microphones midway. I'll post an update here when there's news.

Chapter 10 is ready:
https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/treacheryouterspace_10_rockwell_128kb.mp3
length is 14:23
Tom is OK, but now Roger is AWOL - or maybe in some dire trouble.

The other channel on my mic preamp doesn't have the DC offset, so no new spending was needed, yay!

Glad that airlock held him tight.

Chapter 11 will be here soon. I'm going to listen to it with fresh ears in the morning. If I don't find anything too horrible I'll u/l then.
