[COMPLETE] The Early Hanoverians by Edward E. Morris - dc
Thank you for listening to them!
This one brought Alberoni into better focus for me, too.

Patrick O'Brian may have borrowed one of South Sea Bubble schemes to defraud poor Jack Aubrey - extracting silver from lead dross.
Can you tell me if the Bishop of Marseilles could have had a natural immunity to the Plague? I recently read Claire Tomalin's book about Samuel Pepys - he strolled nonchalantly around plague stricken London and knew he would be safe. He also frequented loose women and suffered no ill consequences.
Best,
Barbara
Hi Barbara,
Yes, and thank you!
Actually, I don't know about any natural immunity to the bubonic plague. It is a zoonotic infection, like Covid-19, and coming from animals, I thought it finds the human immune system unprepared.

I searched our agreeable author and was surprised to read that he'd settled in Australia in 1875 and "his most important work is his... painstaking and valuable Austral English: A Dictionary Of Australasian Words, Phrases And Usages was published in 1898." (Wikipedia).
I guess you knew that? As this wasn't intended to be a scholarly work he wouldn't have suffered too much from "the tyranny of distance" from sources and libraries.
Best,
Barbara
Thank you, Barbara!
I knew he’d settled in Australia, but I didn’t know he was so hep to your lingo!

PL OK. I hope Fleury is an omen.... Wikipedia speaks fairly well of him. He died in his hundredth year! What were the odds against that?pnagami wrote: ↑March 9th, 2020, 7:27 am Hi Barbara,
