Report of the Presidential Task Force on Market Mechanisms by Nicholas F. Brady (1930 - 0).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-brady-report-by-presidential-task-force-on-market-mechanisms/
( )
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/reportofpresiden01unit
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

    Magic Window:

  • The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!
    START of recording (Intro):
    • "Chapter [number] of Report of the Presidential Task Force on Market Mechanisms. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Say:
"Report of the Presidential Task Force on Market Mechanisms, by Nicholas F. Brady. [Chapter]"

For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
    • "Chapter [number] of Report of the Presidential Task Force on Market Mechanisms by Nicholas F. Brady. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Only if applicable, say:
      "[Chapter title]"
    END of recording:
    • At the end of the section, say:
      "End of [Chapter]"
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of Report of the Presidential Task Force on Market Mechanisms, by Nicholas F. Brady. "

There should be ~5 seconds silence at the end of the recording.
  • Example filename reportmarketmechanisms_##_bradycommission_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. reportmarketmechanisms_01_bradycommission_128kb.mp3)

We'll need a rough number of sections. You can add more later as needed, but we need at least a number to set this up.

Generally on these government reports, we put the author as the name of the commission or task force rather than the chair of it. Are there any compelling reasons to change this practice for this project? :)

I don't think so - the report was commonly known as the Brady Report, after the chairman but it would be best to follow the normal method. there also is a short preface and executive summary that will be read.

I am going to try to do this in 8 sections. the preface and executive summary can be combined with chapter 1, then chapters 2-8 as separate sections with the short appendix on other regulatory issues attached to chapter 8. i set a completion date of 6-30-20 but expect i should have it wrapped up early. i've a couple group projects i'm working on at the same time.

Thanks for the comment.

OK, sounds good. I'll MC this.

We can also put "The Brady Report" in parentheses in the project title, so it could be found that way. I did that with the Kerner Report and the Warren Report (JFK's assassination).

OK, I've set this up. A few comments:

- I think you can leave off "by Nicholas F. Brady" (or any author) in the intros, since it's the report of the task force, so of course the task force is the author. :) Or you could say "by the Brady Commission" here.

- I shortened the file name and gave my suggestion for what to use. You can change the title and author parts of the file name if you wish.

- You'll need to decide if you want to say "Section" or "Chapter" in the intros/outros. I suggest "Section" as it's more flexible.

As you're the soloist, you're in charge of updating the Magic Window.

Detailed Instructions for accessing the Magic Window can be found in the document linked here:
Instructions for Soloists

Video showing how to use the Magic Window (read the above document first - it has the information on how to log in for the first time, which this does not have):

When you upload a chapter, put the file duration (mm:ss) in the Notes field and the uploaded URL into the Listen URL field, and mark it from Assigned to Ready for PL.

This is my monthly check-in. Just getting started on this project this week, I finally have my winter teaching in balance and should be able to work on this fairy steadily now. Thanks again for MC'ing.

march check-in. i am isolated in merritt island. will be posting sections 1 and 2 next day or so, and updating the form page. relevance of this report has increased appreciably with the market meltdown occurring - now being compared to october 1987.

OK - it didn't get changed in the workflow system. (The forum and workflow don't talk to each other.)

I've updated the email in the workflow. Try the password reset again.
