(SOLO) From Tangier to Tripoli by Frank G. Carpenter (1855 - 1924).

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/from-tangier-to-tripoli-by-frank-g-carpenter/
Author's account of travels through Algeria, Tunisia, Tripoli and the Sahara Desert with stories about the people, climate, industry and culture. ( BettyB)
  1. Text source (only read from this text!): https://babel.hathitrust/cgi/pt?id=uc1.$b57800&view=1up&seq=11
    .
  2. Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

OK Betty, you're set up.
The link to your source is not working for me. Can you check and post it again?

I am rather baffled by the link not working.
I have triple-checked it for errors and this is the address of the title page of the book.
Any thoughts? MW Filled in...

Well, I'm baffled. I can search on Hathi trust and find it, but none of the links I copy over will work, including the permanent link on the lower left of the page.

But, I see that it is in Wheaton College Library. I may go over and check for a hard copy, just out of curiosity (and to see what in on the shelf next to it).

I see that Wheaton College has an original copy of this book, in the special collections library where I've been studying for grad school! How about if I see if I can get a good scan of the book cover to use for the LV cover.

They also have his titles on South America, Mexico and Bangkok to Bombay.

What do you plan to read next? I can scan those three for LV covers as well.

South America has been done. Bangkok to Bombay is 1927 and Mexico is 1924.
I’ve never seen the last two on Archive or Hathitrust.

Looks like Mexico will be PD in January ... so the Hathi trust copy should switch to full view at that point.

Hmmm, what a way to monetize your travel hobby!

Hope you have a wonderful Christmas.

Thank you for the listening. It is quite interesting to read these chapters.
People that were so important 100 years ago are virtually unknown today.
We had quite a windfall of Carpenter books on Monday. At least five I think,

I'm enjoying listening, and learning. What a life ... travel around the world and write books. Is there anywhere he has not gone?
