Yes, apart from the book from the 30s I am reading for Legamus, there have been three others:

-Declaring His Genius: Oscar Wilde in North America - Roy Morris, Jr. (2013)
-Wilde in America - David M. Friedman (2014)
-Making Oscar Wilde - Michele Mendelssohn (2018)

My favourite of the three is Friedman's.

John Cooper's website is also a fantastic resource. https://www.oscarwildeinamerica.org/index.html
I'm sorry; I did not make myself clear. I mean to ask if there were any contemporary accounts that were more helpful. Literary journal articles and the like...

Oh, I don't know about that. Do you mean stuff that was published at the time? As far as I am aware, not really. There were a couple of papers that were sympathetic, but most were dismissive (of Wilde, yes, but you get the sense that the authors were really railing against young people for being young). I don't think I have seen anything from the time that was free from bias one way or the other. I've been reading about the lecture tour for about 8 years, off and on, and really until Morris and Friedman's books came out, there wasn't much available that gave an objective view of the tour. Earlier biographies didn't spend too much time on it, as I recall.

Thank you for the swift reply. I would offer to do some digging, but I'm sure you've already been quite diligent and motivated.

I did find a passing reference to Wilde in one of the 1882 Yale literary magazines: https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=mdp.39015068303018&view=1up&seq=259

It is not really favorable to Wilde but it seems to indirectly acknowledge his importance.

You've likely already seen it!

I’d not seen that one, but there is some good mock poetry in the Harvard magazine: https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=hvd.32044107293912&view=1up&seq=243

I spent about 6 months looking at every page in Chronicling America for 1882 that came back after a search for “Oscar Wilde”. A lot of it was nothing of interest, but you can really see how obsessed about him everyone was. I found one article that was a record of the minutes of a local government meeting, with all the council members’ speech translated into aesthetic slang (too too, utterly utter, intensely soulful, etc). Readers must have been expected to understand all the references.

Section 22 (the aesthetic craze) for PL
https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/wildeints_18820122_louisvillecj_128kb.mp3

You may notice an error at about 7.40 when Wilde refers to Baltimore as 'here' instead of 'there', even though he is in Washington. This is an error in the article itself. I am correcting obvious typos, but this feels a bit different. I wasn't sure, so I've left it as it was.

Hi Kevin,

I am just checking in to let you know that I am moving house next week: I had hoped to get some more recording done this past month, but I've been a bit busy. I will get back into it in March.

Thanks very much for letting us know. And good luck with the move. Always a bother, I think. But once you're settled; that's heaven.

Hi Kevin,

I noticed that my last batch of uploads was missing the '_128kb' at the end of each file name. I have re-uploaded them with the suffix added, and updated the links. Sorry for the bother. They are otherwise identical to the original uploads.

And another batch for PL. Absolutely no rush on these. I only managed to record so many this past couple of weeks because I was away from home and had nothing else to do. I still have to find the originals of some of the interviews I want to record, so I expect to be working on this project until at least the autumn.
