Thanks! Fixed it.

Now the file is 34:31.8 long.

And you magically found that I had uploaded a file but didn't do a post! That occurred to me this morning.....

Cheers

Hi --

Section 55 has been recorded and uploaded onto the server, ready for PLing.

https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/endeavourjournal_55_banks_128kb.mp3
35:15.8, 89.0 dB

I found parts of this section hilarious in a depressing way - his description of ethnic stereotypes. I wonder how he would have described the stereotypes of British people (but of course he didn't go there)? What for me was depressingly hilarious is that many of the stereotypes are sadly similar to modern ones.... for something written >200 years ago. I also learned the origin of the term "running amok" which I didn't know before.

Anyway, slowly getting there, one section at a time.

I hope you are well.

Sometimes I think that the books could be passed off as having been written this century.

We're vaccinated and things are slowly beginning to reopen. Went to a French Bistro last night!

This Section doesn't seem quite so much of this century -- although covid on a cruise ship might be an appropriate analogy.

I have to wonder how often disease swept through a ship's crew.

Hi Again --

I suspect in this case it was water full of dysentery and malaria infected larvae, but the dysentery could have been transmitter person-to-person. A quick google search found a published literature on the question with some articles open access but I didn't delve into it.

Section 57 has been uploaded.

17:15.4, 89.8 dB.

Thanks for listening

Hi Again --

A very readingish weekend.

Sections 58 and 59 are now uploaded. Both short.

https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/endeavourjournal_58_banks_128kb.mp3
3:33.3, 90.1 dB

https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/endeavourjournal_59_banks_128kb.mp3
7:40.0, 90.4 dB

Thanks for listening.

I am getting close to the finish so will need to draft a bit of a story.....

Anne -- are you interested in doing a cover? I haven't looked for likely public domain images yet, but can get on to that.

Hi Again --

Here are Sections 60 and 61.

https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/endeavourjournal_60_banks_128kb.mp3
7:12.3, 90.7 dB

https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/endeavourjournal_61_banks_128kb.mp3
23:32.7, 89.4 dB

A bit more 18th century racism.... and a few more sailors who don't make it home from the voyage....

They have turned the corner and are on the last leg back to Britain.

Just a little bit more. I must work on the summary paragraph!

Cheers, and thanks for listening.

Hi Anne and David --

I have drafted a summary for The Endeavour Journal and it can be found on the first page.

I would really appreciate your comments on and edits of the summary. You can either edit directly onto the first page or make a copy and reveal your edits in a posted reply.

Many thanks!
