[COMPLETE] The Endeavour Journal of Sir Joseph Banks by Joseph Banks - annise
Hi Again -
Anne - galah flavoured rock - delicious I am sure.
David - I have uploaded Section 11 now. More sad deaths, a bit of gruesome detail, and JB reveals aspects of his character that are unfortunate....
https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/endeavourjournal_11_banks_128kb.mp3
23:36.3, 87.9 dB
Once again I have needed to do some editing, but had to do some re-recording. Let me know..... and thanks for listening.
Cheers
Gail

Hi -
Hope you and yours are all keeping well....
Here is Section 13.

19:25.3, 89.0 dB
Thanks for listening. Fairly interesting this one -- quite a clash of cultures, and some (spoiler alert) SURFING!!!
I hear that downtown Chicago is very very quiet. How's Melbourne, Anne?
Cheers (from a fairly well shut-down NZ)

Pretty quiet.
My daughter was in NZ till last Thursday with a couple of foster kids and she came back in the evening after child protection panicked. It's about a 5-hour drive to her home so she spent the night here (it was midnight before she left the airport). She's safely home now in 2 weeks home quarantine and I'm staying in as much as possible just in case.
Schools are closing tomorrow, all non-essential business is closing. There are many people who will be out of work.
It is weird though - I needed to pick up something from the chemist and the few people around were all walking at a distance from each other. Bit like those end of the world movies.
All keep safe
Anne

Hi Anne and David --

As we know, they succeeded in observing the Transit of Venus.
I was privileged to "see" it in 2004 when I was in Dijon in France for a legume genetics conference. I skipped out on a talk, headed to a balcony with a smooth concrete floor, got out the pin-hole camera I had made, and it worked a treat.
Anne - I have total admiration for your daughter as a foster-mother. Good on her. I hope that they had a good trip to NZ.
It is weird here too. Biking is a joy because there are hardly any cars on the roads, but the cycle ways (smooth asphalt) are busy with walkers and bikes, so plenty of pulling off onto the road (lumpy tarmac) to maintain distance. The great kiwi clobbering machine is in full action, criticising anyone who exercises in a way that most people can't understand (or achieve), particularly any endurance exercise. Unfortunately the back-country is off limits with tramping (backpacking/bushwalking) explicitly off-limits. At least we are allowed to get outside for exercise, even if some rather silly limitations are in place. I guess they cater for the lowest common denominator and assume no common sense, which is perhaps fair enough. I keep meaning to load my backpack up with about 12 kg of stuff for my walks around the neighbourhood so that my load carrying ability doesn't completely die, even though it is as flat as Chicago where I live (without skyscraper stairways for climbing).
Take care of yourselves.
Cheers
Gail

Hi --

It's time for them to leave Tahiti before the Tahitians get seriously sick of these arrogant, "entitled" Englishmen. I don't wonder that the Hawaiians killed Cook when he returned to them. I looked up the "Spanish" ships that visited Tahiti between the Dolphin and the Endeavour -- apparently there was a visit by two French ships captained by de Bougainville, but not Spanish.
Take care and keep healthy.

Hi David and Anne --
Here is Section 16.

They do their best to burn their bridges before leaving, but maybe they did make some good friends among the Tahitians. And the Tupaia // lions and tigers analogy -- ARRRGGGH.
Just hearing from our PM about when we (might) go out of Lockdown. I hope that you, your friends and families are well in your communities. I keep an eye on Chicago because of family there -- pretty scary.
Thanks for listening.

16 PL OK.
Yes, things are getting a bit scary. We know two families that have lost sons to the virus. We are expecting the stay-at-home order to be extended to at least the middle of May. Our garden is doing well and is producing lettuce already. We should have June peas!
