I'm querying two things in chapter 2:
2.04, false start, bottom half p. 12
Though- So I learned the arts of the medicine-men.
6.37-6.41, p. 14 mid-page
“You whelp whom I have bred up to tear me!”
Could you double check this? It sounds like the tears you cry, rather than the tearing that a whelp would do (presumably with his teeth). I’ve had to listen a couple of times!
You weren't joking. This really starts with a bang!

Chapter 2 corrected and uploaded and here come Chapters 6-9.
What a violent book this is! Not what I was expecting at all....

Section 2 is spot PL OK, and section 3 is PL OK.
At least you've warned me about the violence. I was pretty nervous for a minute when he said he thought about killing his dog. I thought I'd have to report this to doesthedogdie.com!

I spoke too soon about the dog being safe. Boo!
Section 4: a note on volume, and two from the same paragraph:
84.1 dB
20.28-20.30, top half p. 30
…lest [heard let] the cattle miscarry.
20.40, top half p. 30, omission
Nay, then, [if you will have time for thought, I give it.] Take these men,

One PL note for chapter 5:
10.18-10.21, first sentence final para p. 36
You ask of the Umkandhlu regiment which fled [heard fell].
I hope your week is off to a good start!

Switched at birth! Classic twist!
One note for section 6:
19.05-19.11, p. 45 mid-page, repetition (character voices)
“The boy seems bigger than he was,” “The boy seems bigger than he was,” she said.

One small note for chapter 8. You weren't joking about how bloodthirsty it is! There are old, evil, female witches in some of Haggard's other novels, and they invariably creep out the protagonists but actually speak the truth. It seems as if he's carrying on his tradition here, though I keep hoping there will be some little twist that breaks away from the stereotype of the old crone.
18.25-18.30, p. 60 penultimate full para
For till this hour, when a man was swept with the gnu’s [heard gun’s] tail of the Isanusi…

Chapter 9 is PL OK, although I actively dislike Umslopogaas now for killing those lion cubs.
Chapters 4, 5, 6 corrected and uploaded and Chapter 10 ready for PL.

Well, by the end of this chapter there are very few of the original cast left alive so I am not sure where we are heading next. I guess it is not to much of a spoiler if I tell you Umslopogaas is still alive and the lioness is next on his list

Chapters, 4, 5 and 6 are spot PL OK, and chapter 10 is PL OK.
I knew Umslopogaas hadn't died because he appears as an adult elsewhere in Haggard (quite apart from the Oedipal struggle that's being set up here!). I'm not surprised he's after that lioness either - now and as an grown up he really needed to work on his Zen!

So does that mean that Umslopogaas is going to survive the book? It seems as if Mopo is last man standing.
Sorry to keep you in suspense. Chapters 11-15 are ready to go if only I could upload them

Unless my memory is horrendously faulty, Umslopogaas survives this book, yes!
That is a big bummer. The internet connection at home aren't reliable enough to stream, but they're usually reliable enough to download! Maybe this way you will get really good at finding all the fast, free internet near you. But if not, I'm willing to wait until you upload the whole audiobook in one go when you do have reliable internet again!

Chapter 8 corrected and uploaded - Chapters 11-17 for PL. Early morning seems to be the answer to uploading problems!

Ready for PL! I have tried some fancy stuff towards the end of Chapter 18 - please say if it doesn't work. I still have the original!
I must say I am feeling a certain amount of postcolonial angst about this book as historical fiction - especially the portrayal of Zulus as more or less unremittingly superstitious and bloodthirsty. It was quite recent history, after all. But Haggard really is a storyteller and I was really impressed by the writing in these two chapters - "...at the sound of the king's voice jackals stirred and slunk away'!
