Hi Barbara,

The subject interests me and I haven't read Dalrymple. I will listen to the interview.

Thanks!

PL OK. Interesting to see the problem of how to govern India from the perspective of a Victorian. And I am old enough to remember when India was part of the British Empire. It seems like a dream...

Hi Barbara,

But it's a novel discussion of Fox's India Bill, isn't it?

Thanks!

A rare PL note Pam. On page 115 (at 11:29.5) the text refers to the "personal interference [not influence] of the Crown", and I have dangerous levelling notions...

So subtle and balanced overall in fact. And your reading helps one to grasp the details. Very enjoyable listening.

PL OK.

PL OK. Next year, the French Revolution. I wonder what our author will have to say about the effect of that on British political life? BTW, the British colonisation of Australia began in 1788 - very peripheral to the main business of government!

Best,

Barbara
