Floyd's Flowers Or Duty and Beauty For Colored Children Being One Hundred Short Stories Gleaned from the Storehouse of Human Knowledge and Experience Simple Amusing Elevating, by Silas X. Floyd (1869 - 1923).

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/floyds-flowers-by-silas-x-floyd/

Truly the boys and girls of to-day ought to be thankful that they are alive. There never was such a golden age for childhood and youth as the present. To say nothing of the rich opportunities for mental and spiritual development, what a multitude of things have been provided for the innocent pleasure, the wholesome recreation of the young people of to-day; inventions that remind one of the magic of the “Arabian Nights”; tools of sport so perfect that one cannot imagine how they could be bettered; fascinating games, all unknown in the days gone by; books and papers upon which science, art and literary skill have lavished modern resources—all these and many other wonderful things have fallen to the lot of the favored boys and girls of to-day.

And now enterprising publishers of our grand country are going to put the boys and girls of America—and especially the colored boys and girls of America—under obligation to them, because they have decided to add to the list of good books for children and youths already on the market. I use the word “good” advisedly; for from the day that I was engaged to write this book I have had in mind constantly the thought of making it such a book as would 10tell for good. It is an old saying that “evil communications corrupt good manners,” but evil reading does more than this: for evil reading corrupts good morals.

I have endeavored to put into this book of stories for children only such things as might be freely admitted into the best homes of the land, and I have written with the hope that many young minds may be elevated by means of these stories and many hearts filled with high and holy aspirations. Our nation has a right to expect that our boys and girls shall turn out to be good men and good women, and this book is meant to help in this process. ( Silas X. Ford)

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Well, technically, yes. :) Your separate post in which you said you wanted to record this. ;) But since you posted this completed template, I silently removed that post from the forum.

Other than that, no. If you're asking because no one has set this up yet, keep in mind that it may take a few days. MCs are volunteers, too, and aren't on all the time - and we have our work limits so we don't get overwhelmed with projects, so not everyone will be able to set this up.

Taking a look at your template, it looks like you put the "SOLO" and the author's name in the project title, which is a common mistake but not hard to fix. It just messes up the template a bit. I'll have a look at your first post and clean things up for you. However, I'm unable to set this up or be your MC at this point.

EDIT: OK, I've cleaned up the template (especially the intro wording and the file name). Feel free to start recording sections for this, but don't upload anything until you get an MC. :)

Omg thank you Tricia. I thought I deleted that other post. My apologies. I am a little slow with stuff now so thanknyiu for your patience. I'm a stroke survivor so it takes me longer to figure things out now.
I truly appreciate all your help with me.

Warmest regards,

Lola,

I'd be happy to MC this for you. I'll get you set up and then come back with some further instructions.

Lola,

OK, Your MW is set up.

For a solo project, you are the Book Coordinator. That means you fill out the Magic Window and post your links and times in the window when you upload your files.

You'll need to start by logging into the magic window. Instructions are in the BC How-to; and this is a more detailed version of the First Login instructions (with pictures!) Please be sure to read all of the BC How To document, as that will give you more information on your role as a BC.

Next, you'll need to start entering section (or chapter) titles. I've entered the first couple to get you started.

Then you are ready to start recording. When you upload a section, it's your responsibility to add the link and duration (mm:ss) to the Magic Window. Link from the uploader goes in the "listen URL" column, duration goes in the "notes" column. Then be sure to post in the thread that a new section is ready for PL so your DPL knows there is something new.

If you have questions, or if you have any trouble with the instructions in the BC how to, please post and we'll work through it together. There is a bit of a learning curve when you do your first solo. You've picked a nice book - short stories aimed at children, so it should be a manageable and enjoyable process for you.

Thank you Mary Ann for picking project and sending the great instructions. I'm sure I'll have questions but I'll ask before I do anything to mess up the project.
Yaay! Im so excited

:9:
When I post my chapter, will I post it like I've been doing in a post response? Should I follow the guide and post it directly to the MW?

Lola,

You should put the link and the time directly in the MW and change the status to "ready for PL". It's also good to post in the thread to say "section xx" ready for PL. That way once we get a DPL, they will get a reminder (from the MW post) every time there is another chapter to listen to.

This looks great! I think I'd like to DPL for you, if you're still looking.
