Anne of Geierstein Volume 2 by Walter Scott (1771 - 1832).

Anne of Geierstein, or The Maiden of the Mist (1829) is an adventure and romance novel by Sir Walter Scott. It is set in Central Europe, mainly in Switzerland, shortly after the Yorkist victory at the Battle of Tewkesbury (1471). It covers the period of Swiss involvement in the Burgundian Wars. ( Wiki)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/44247
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Sections 1 and 2 are PL OK. Wow. I'm going to have to look into that court. They didn't teach about things like that in my grad school courses on medieval or renaissance history!

A quick dive of the duck (I use DuckDuckGo, not Google) revealed that there really were such courts because of the inability of the so-called Holy Roman Emperors to carry out justice effectively throughout their realm. I'm sure they were sometimes abused and used for unjust purposes, but they did arise out of a legitimate need. https://www.infoplease.com/encyclopedia/history/modern-europe/germany/vehmgericht 8-)

Thanks for the research. Walter Scott weaves a lot of depth into his stories--no wonder folks still read his works. Good day!

Section 3 is PL OK. I love history, historical fiction. and researching things, though that was hardly research, just a one step online search.
