Heidi by Johanna Spyri (1827 - 1901). Translated by Elisabeth P. Stork ( - )

This project can now be found in our catalog at https://librivox.org/heidi-version-3-by-johanna-spyri/

Johanna Spyri’s classic story of a 5 year old little Swiss orphan who is heartbroken when she must leave her beloved grandfather and their happy home in the mountains to go to school and to care for an invalid girl in the city. It was written as a book "for children and those who love children" ( phil chenevert and the author)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/20781
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I am looking for a DPL for this project. I might be a bit slow in actually recording but who knows, I might get inspired?

Well hi Kevin and thank you. I have not really re ad this book but I love this type of thing because they are mostly upbeat and optimistic. Image

You are right Kevin. I started reading a bit ahead and found that I could not stop and read the whole thing! It is lovely and hokey and sweet and sad all at the same time. I've already done two more chapters but need to edit them.

I know you're watching re-runs of StarTrek instead of recording more 'Heidi.'

Nope. I actually never enjoyed star trek. But between taking care of Betty I am recording Heidi, just finished chapter 7 and will start 8 tonight. Sometimes I record an entire book before starting editing. Depends on how the spirit moves me. I am also working on a presentation about what happens when we sleep and that is more right fun now as well as most intellectually engaging.

Just listened to your story The Naming. You are a good writer, it flowed very well and I could picture everything. I was assuming death was the prince but apparently not and will need to listen again to straighten it out in my mind. Loved your premise of someone knowing the true names of everyone; that was unique and engaging. Image

EDIT: as I have mentioned, nothing is really pressured here in LibriVox especially in solos. It will come when it will come.

Thank you for listening to the story. I stole the idea of naming from Ursula K. LeGuin. I could not live with you thinking I was that clever.

As for Heidi, you know I`m only teasing.
