Обыкновенная история, Иван Гончаров (1812 - 1891).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/obyknovennaya-istorya-by-ivan-goncharov/
IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Thank you, Diana!

I have filled up the MW with section titles. As soon as I have some quiet around here, I'll start reading. :)

I read the first chapter from a different source, and found a significant difference on page 10. It's an unusual one, I'd say. The text in the 1912 edition has "А дочка Марьи Васильевны, Сонюшка?". Later in the same chapter (pages 19, 20, 23) the name of that neighbor is given as Марья Карповна. I am following the way it's in later editions, where the first occurrence is changed from "Васильевны" to "Карповны". It is highly unlikely that Goncharov intended the patronymic to be mixed up like that.

Any objections?

Sounds good to me, it definitely sounds like an error. Are you reading from a later edition? I will PL against the one on Archive but there might be risk of modifications.

I am reading from an electronic text of a digitized academic edition, but verifying it with the one on Archive. There can be slight variations (I have seen a word different here and there), but if the meaning is not changed, I revert to the Archive edition.

Serious changes are supplied with comments, I believe. I have not found any cases of that with Goncharov's works yet.

OK, section 2 is up. It's longer than 74 minutes, but I think we're past the CD era by now, so it shouldn't matter.

Section 3 is up. There is one typo - "больная" instead of "бальная" - (some other editions had it corrected). I read it as the latter as it seemed to make more sense that way.

We still have the 72-minute rule though... could you please split the section when you have the chance? :) I can add an extra section in the MW.

I would prefer not to -- it's a single chapter. I would rather lobby for the removal of that outdated rule.

ETA: ... unless there is a technical requirement from Archive for publishing of our stuff, of course.
