The Six Books of Proclus, the Platonic Successor, on The Theology of Plato Translated and Partially Written by Thomas Taylor (1758 - 1835)

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-six-books-of-proclus-by-proclus/
The Six books of Proclus, the Platonic successor, on The Theology of Plato (Greek: ΠΕΡΙ ΤΗΣ ΚΑΤΑ ΠΛΑΤΩΝΑ ΘΕΟΛΟΓΙΑΣ; Latin: Theologia Platonica; Alternate English Title: Platonic Theology). A Seventh book was written by the translator, Thomas Taylor, in order to supply the deficiency of another book on this subject, which was written by Proclus, but since lost. According to the 1995 Prometheus Trust edition Book 3 Chapter 1 of this translation contains Chapters 1-4 from the original Greek, Chapter 2 contains the Greek chapters 5-6 and Chapter 3 contains the Greek Chapters 7-8. Thereafter, the translated and Greek chapters match beginning at Chapter 9. A quotation from Proclus is included on the cover of Harmonices Mundi Liber I despite the fact that Johannes Kepler's mother had been recently accused of witchcraft and threatened with torture. IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Before I set this up for you I just wanted to ask about the book title. The following title appears when I do a translator search: The Six Books of Proclus, the Platonic Successor, on the Theology of Plato. Could you help me understand where the title "Platonic Theology" comes from?

Hi David this Stanford article referred to this exact translation as Platonic Theology: https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/proclus/

"Platonic Theology
Saffrey, H.D., and L.G. Westerink, 1968–1997, Proclus: Théologie platonicienne, 6 vol., (Series: Collection des Universités de France), Paris: Les Belles Lettres.
Taylor, Th, 1816, Proclus’ Theology of Plato, (Series: The Thomas Taylor Series, VIII), London: Prometheus Trust. [Reprint]"

There was also a later Christian Philosopher named Ficino who wrote a book that has the exact same Latin title and it is called Platonic Theology on Wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platonic_theology

The project could also be called:

"Theology of Plato" or "On the Theology of Plato"

Both of these titles match the text in the book but seem to be less commonly used today when referring to the book written by Proclus.

You're the MC so whichever project title you judge to be best for the purposes of LibriVox cataloging is acceptable to me.

Ok I'm going to be honest here. I picked 'Platonic Theology' over alternatives because I thought it sounded sexier. 8-)

I've changed the book title to the not so sexy one on the cover page. I would use this title at the beginning of the first intro and in the end of book statement at the very end of the last section. A shorter title can be used elsewhere as you did in the filenames. I took the liberty of putting myself in as DPL. If you have someone else in mind let me know.

I like it. It reminds me of the super long space ship from the movie Spaceballs.

Section 2 is uploaded.

There are 2 mistaken citations in this section of the book. One to the Bible and one to Kepler. I read the correct citations instead. Just in case you're wondering. 8-)
