Trial and Triumph by Frances E. W. Harper (1825 - 1911).
I haven't finished reading it yet! ( Asia Wilcox)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/11056
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): wordperfect

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

    Magic Window:

    BC Admin
    ===========================================
Genres for the project: Historical Fiction
Keywords that describe the book: Historical Fiction, african american
    ============================================
  • The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!
    START of recording (Intro):
    • "Chapter [number] of Trial and Triumph. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Say:
"Trial and Triumph, by Frances E. W. Harper. [Chapter]"

For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
    • "Chapter [number] of Trial and Triumph by Frances E. W. Harper. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Only if applicable, say:
      "[Chapter title]"
    END of recording:
    • At the end of the section, say:
      "End of [Chapter]"
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of Trial and Triumph, by Frances E. W. Harper. "

There should be ~5 seconds silence at the end of the recording.
  • Example filename trialandtriumph_##_harper_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. trialandtriumph_01_harper_128kb.mp3)
  • ID3 V2 tags are not necessary.
Enter section/chapter titles in the MW. Author and book title will be set automatically during cataloguing.

    Transfer of files (completed recordings)
Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file. Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.
    • Upload your file with the LibriVox Uploader: https://librivox.org/login/uploader
      Image
(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin)
    • You'll need to select the MC, which for this project is: darvinia
    • When your upload is complete, you will receive a link - please post it in this thread.
    • If this doesn't work, or you have questions, please check our How To Send Your Recording wiki page.

    Any questions?
    Please post below

This book is in our catalogue:

https://librivox.org/incidents-in-the-life-of-a-slave-girl-by-harriet-jacobs/

I only mention it because some people prefer to do something not yet recorded. You are most welcome to make your own recording if you still want to. We call it "choice of voice".

If you want to continue I'd be happy to MC it but I won't set it up till you post your decision here.

Ugh. I am certainly drawn to this novel and Mrs. Jacobs. But I don't want to be redundant when there are so many works that need recording.
I'd like to switch to Clotelle. How do I go about deleting this thread?

Hi Asia,

If you need a thread deleted in future you can just post your request in the thread and any admin can handle it. Having said that, what you've done here works too because you had something to replace it with.

So I've set it up as a solo for you.

Your MW awaits!

It appears that you haven't soloed before. :) So here is some information about your new responsibilities.

As a soloist, you are your own BC (Book Coordinator) and therefore in charge of updating the Magic Window.

There are detailed instructions for soloist BCs in our wiki here:
https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Soloists:_How_to_update_the_Magic_Window

After uploading a section, put the file duration in minutes and seconds in the Notes field and the URL into the Listen URL field, and use the drop down menu to change it from "Assigned" to "Ready for PL".

If you have any questions along the way post them here. If I don't have an answer I'll find somebody who does.

I put a ~ at the beginning of your subject line to indicate that we need a proof-listener. If you have somebody in mind let me know, I'll add them and remove the tilde.

I noticed you used your name, Asia Wilcox, in the summary. Would you like that to be your catalogue display name? It is easily changed.

Have fun! :)

Thanks for checking in. Take all the time you need. As long as I hear from you once a month I won't worry. :)
