  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Dave at craigdav1 says he will dpl/mc Thanks!

Dave, though there are several authors this is just one book so I'm assuming it's not treated as a collection? I could include the author in the title of each section?

Not a collection is right. Putting their names in the title seems like a good strategy.

Gives a very different viewpoint than what one usually reads -- much more real, I should think. I've finished recording this diary and there are real privations to come.

1-2
Both files are referred to initially as "Section 1". I find this a bit confusing. The listener might think they are listening to the same file. Could the second file be called "section 2" or perhaps they might be called "story 1, part1/2?"

Hi Dave, I see what you mean. I want to use "part" for the parts that several of the narratives have. These are not really stories but true narratives. That's why I chose "section" for each work. How about starting off each part with a fuller identification, so

instead of
Section 1 of Famous Adventures And Prison Escapes of the Civil War, by Various
This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain.
Section 1 WAR DIARY OF A UNION WOMAN IN THE SOUTH Part 2
use
Section 1 Part 2 of Famous Adventures And Prison Escapes of the Civil War, by Various
This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain.
Section 1 WAR DIARY OF A UNION WOMAN IN THE SOUTH Part 2
and so forth.

This is better because the listener quickly knows that they are listening to the next part (since the previous outro will say "part 1"). A minor quibble...When the book is catalogued the files are listed consecutively as sections (1-17) and the audio will have 7 sections (with parts) that don't correspond to the book page. Admittedly, almost no one will be looking at the book page while listening to the files.

Another possibility...
Section 1 of Famous Adventures And Prison Escapes of the Civil War, by Various
This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain. WAR DIARY OF A UNION WOMAN IN THE SOUTH Part 1
Then for the next file,
Section 2 of Famous Adventures And Prison Escapes of the Civil War, by Various
This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain. WAR DIARY OF A UNION WOMAN IN THE SOUTH Part 2
Until,
Section 17...

Either of these is better.

I like your suggestion better than mine. So I have corrected section 1 and section 2 intros and outros to reflect that. Thanks for your input.

2
00:10 At the end of the intro you say section 1, not 2.
