Scilly and its legends. by Henry John Whitfeld ( - 0).

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page here:

https://librivox.org/scilly-and-its-legends-by-henry-john-whitfield/

A travel journal to the Scilly Islands written in the Nineteenth Century. It records Scillonian legends and folklore. There are brief diversions into period racism.( Timothy Ferguson)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://hdl.handle.net/2027/hvd.32044089061014
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

In verifying the author in the database, I notice his last name is Whitfeld, not Whitfield. FYI. :)

Timothy,

Tricia is correct, the author's name is Whitfeld. I had noticed that earlier, but hadn't gotten back to fix it. Please note that I've updated the top post to reflect this in the intros and outros as well as the filenames.

Hi Timothy, I'd be glad to PL, if you need someone. Nice hand-colored title page for this small volume!

Hi Sue! Thanks for DPLing.

Sorry about the delay - my recording area is not air conditioned and Australia is having a heat wave at the moment, so it's an oven in there.

In my last post I wished for snow, and got night storms instead, which made recording in my tin-roofed garage difficult, but here is a start. There are a flurry of little chapters at the beginning.

Hi Timothy, Glad to see you've been able to start on your recording; I didn't detect any sounds of rain on the roof. Preface is PL Ok. :) All is good and well with Chs. 1 & 2, except for two tiny mis-reads:

Ch. 1, page 1 of text, at 1:01, text reads "and a blanket below." You said "and a sheet below."

Ch. 2, page 8 of text, at 4:43, text reads "It was the back fin of a shark." It sounded to me as if you read "It was the black fin of a shark."

This is enjoyable listen; I'm a fan of old travel books!
