City of Endless Night by Milo Hastings (1884 - 1957).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/city-of-endless-night-by-milo-hastings/
An example of early dystopian science fiction written shortly after World War I, "City of Endless Night" imagines a future with a very different ending to the Great War. Set in 2151 and in an underground Berlin, our protagonist is Lyman De Forrest, an American chemist who enters the city to discover the hidden truths of a forbidden metropolis. The subterranean world hosts a highly-regimented society of 300,000,000 sun-starved humans. As the first outsider to enter, he's horrified by what he finds, but will he accomplish his mission and escape the living tomb?

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I love to read, AND my employer matches my volunteer hours with a donation to the Internet Archive, flagged to benefit Librivox.org. How cool is that?

Thank you! Just up to my shins so far, but more snow coming. It has the advantage of making things extra quiet around here.

Do we need to advertise for a DPL or have you asked someone?

I was just about to put the word out for a DPL. You're always a favorite, but I'd never impose if your plate is full or the material isn't up your alley.

I need to make a correction to the way the chapters are broken up. Silly me, made the assumption that the chapters would be pretty even in length, but chapter 3 seemed long, so I checked my word counts for each chapter and a few of them are excessive. Chapters 5, 6, 12, and 14 need to be split into two parts. I have no issues correcting the magic window, but the intro/outro for chapters 1 and 2 will need to be edited. It's a tiny change - simply substituting "Section" for Chapter, so I'll do that cleanup this evening and submit new recordings. Chapter 3 will be part of the next submittal too. Sorry for the mixup, but glad I caught it now.

No problem. I'll just re-listen to the intros and outros for sections 1&2. The maximum length of recordings is around 70m though many readers prefer to keep them shorter. It's your call when they are less than 70m.

Thanks - I don't usually mind reading long chapters, but over 10k words in a chapter is pushing it ;)
