Finally started!

Chapter 1

35:56

The next chapter is the longest in the book, so it may take me two or three sessions to record it and cut it down.
"To arms! to arms!" stirring stuff but I thought Cochrane was a bit over the top wanting the Greek flag to fly over Santa Sofia (Istanbul??). Google reveals that there is a chapel of that name on the Acropolis. PL OK!

Well, this one was difficult: it's the longest chapter in the book. Here it is, though:

Chapter 18

Thank you Timothy, but don't hold your breath because, by co-incidence, I just started on what I was horrified to discover is a 7,000 word section in a group read. I'm taking a break at 4,000 odd words at the moment.

Thank you Barbara. I think I put this one off so long because it came out to 80 minutes of recording time. 8(

I had the file name wrong and have reloaded it as

Good luck with your marathon!

Thanks for the encouragement!

As to your 80 minute section - there is a recommended upper limit of 70 minutes. Just check in the Need Help forum. If the 70 minute rule still applies, you can just split Section 2 and add a section to the MW (I read fewer words per minute than you do and have decided that's what I'd better do.)

I'll do the proof listening when you hear from the more technically astute.

Hi,
The recordings need to fit on a CD so 70 minutes or less is best. 80 minutes will push the limit so it would be best to split it.
Cheers,

Oh, it was 80 minutes raw.

Now I've cut out my mistakes, it's -way- shorter.

Ha ha. I'll get onto it soon. A bug which affected my video driver has been squashed at last.

Timothy, a tour de force - but you cut off the end of the recording. It ends with:

"the people whom he was doing his utmost to serve.

If anything"

There are another 614 words to the end of the Chapter.

Hope you kept them and can paste them back on.

Best,

Barbara

Hi!

Reloaded.

I'm not sure what happened there. My original files both end normally. I must have broken it somehow during the upload process.

Hi!

Chapter 3 is a bit shorter. 44:34

https://librivox.org/uploads/alg1001/lifeofthomaslordcochrane2_03_bourne_128kb.mp3

One thing: I think I cut them all out, but could you please check I didn't keep calling his assistant Dr Grosse, rather than Dr Gosse?

PL OK.

All the "Gross" misprints had been eliminated. Out of interest, I did a word count (via a word processor) on some of Lord Cochrane's longer sentences and they came in at well over 100 words. Reading them so that they sounded OK was quite an accomplishment!
