The Tale of Grunty Pig by Arthur Scott Bailey (1877 - 1949).

This project is now complete! All audio files can now be found on the catalog page for this project https://librivox.org/the-tale-of-grunty-pig-by-arthur-scott-bailey/
Arthur Scott Bailey, a native of the state of Vermont, wrote over forty children's books using a variety of animals, birds and even insects to entertain. The Tale of Grunty Pig is one of 16 stories of his Tuck-Me-In Tales series. ( Larry Wilson)
  • Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/24731

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Thanks, Sonia!

Yeah, I didn't know which template to use since I wasn't going to be the soloist.
I'm just going to run the MW for him, which I'm glad to do.

We don't have a DPL lined up, but these usually draw a lot of interest.

ah ok, it doesn't matter who the soloist is, the important thing is that is IS a solo, so we need the solo template (because of the wording of the first post, intro, etc).

No harm done, I managed to tweak it. We'll stay here a day or two, to find a DPL.

great, a fast start. Could only just update the MW with the links once you've posted them ? Or do you have trouble accessing the MW ?

Great!

I've put these in the MW Ready for PL
We haven't had a volunteer for DPL yet.
I might mention it in one of our other Bailey projects.
If no one shows up, I'll do it, but I will be off-line next week.

thank you for updating the MW, Larry. And you may also put an advert in Listeners Wanted maybe. :hmm:

I can move us over to Going Solo then

Hi Shasta :)

I started listening to your first sections and now I'm curious how it all will end. So I put myself up for DPL here, if that's ok with you.

The beginning is promising, I love such short sections with easy, engaging tales for children. You also read them very nicely, easy to understand and follow along.

Sometimes I notice a bit of rustling noise, and once I heard a dog barking ;) but seeing we're on a farm here, I think this all adds to ambience and it's not that disturbing, so no need to correct it in these sections. You may want to be careful for future recordings, not to bump or move the microphone, this may be the source of the rustling noise.

Chapters 1-5 all PL ok.

Will continue with the next batch.

Sections 6-10 are also very entertaining. Grunty is a bit of handful

No textual errors found, and I can mark Sections 6, 7, 8 and 10 already PL ok.

Chapter 9 has a bit of an audio-quality problem. :? Most parts were very hard to understand, because the volume was so low. Unfortunately you cannot amplify the overall sound in one go, because there are many high peaks which would clip then. There is a huge difference of sound between some loud parts and those very low parts.

Also the sound is tinnier than in the other chapters, so I was wondering whether you recorded this chapter somehow differently ? :hmm: I hope you remember if there was something different, so this can be avoided in the next chapters.

I guess the only way of making the sound better understandable here is to highlight the soft parts and amplify them manually, at least with 5 dB. If you have another listen, you'll easily find which parts are too soft to understand and you can amplify those bits while you listen.

MW is up-to-date now. Great job so far, Shasta.

Here are Chapters 9 (re-recorded) through 15.

About Chapter 9, I think that came up when I discovered that for some strange reason my Audacity version wasn't working properly and I erased it from my computer and downloaded the latest version. And then the latest version gave me all kinds of problems when I recorded Chapter 9 and maybe 10. Miraculously, I was able somehow to end up with my original Audacity version that is easy to use.

great that you found the problem and were able to solve it  Yes Chapter 9 indeed sounds much better now. Sorry you had to re-record it.

All the sections nicely read again, I especially loved your "grunting sounds" in Chapter 14  not easy to do so often, I expect.

I'll mark all the sections PL ok.

Optionally though, Chapter 13 could benefit a bit from background noise-cleaning. Compared to the other chapters, it has a bit more noise in the background.

Good progress here
