History of the Jews in Russia and Poland, Volume II, From the Death of Alexander I until the Death of Alexander III (1825 - 1894) by Simon Dubnow (1860 - 1941). Translated by Israel Friedlaender (1876 - 1920)

Simon Dubnow was born in 1860 to a poor Jewish family in Belarussian town of Mstsislaw and later became authority of Jewish history and an activist. Due to his Jewish origin, he had to move to St.Petersburg, Odessa, Vilna(Lithuania), St.Petersburg(2nd time), Kaunas(Lithuania), Berlin and finally Riga(Latvia) after Hitler came to power. When Nazi troops occupied Latvia 1941, he was moved with thousands of other Jews to Riga ghetto and was eventually killed. His life is a symbol of Jewish suffering in Eastern Europe in the first half of 20 century. Jews have been migrating from Germany and other European countries to Poland since late middle ages where they were protected by Polish kings mainly for their economic contribution, but frequently persecuted by Christians whenever there were pretexts or kings' power was not strong enough. After Poland was annexed by Russia in late 18C they became object of systematic persecution by Russian government. This tragedy is parallel to the life of the author culminating at Nazi Holocaust. IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

ok then I delete Section 34. Wow the titles are HUGE  Did you use such long titles in the first part of the book as well ? They may get cut off in the archive version, I think they don't allow that many letters

At least the word count I would take out of the title :? usually for that we have the "Notes" section. The title is what will be shown later on in our catalogue, so the word count doesn't really belong there

Sonia,

In recording, the title will be only until chapter no and title as I did in vol 1 and it sounded quite normal. I described sub-chapter title in MW for my own convenience(when reading intros). Words count includes footnote, but I am not going to read them as in vol 1. Word count is also for my convenience so that I can compare word count and length of recording of different sections to make sure things are OK.

By the way, Anthony is going to DPL and I uploaded section 1. The book gets more interesting (or sufferings of Jews get more real).

Thanks,

SS

yes I understand that and that's not what I meant. Everything you write in the "title" section will later on be visible on our website catalogue, and there it looks a bit cluttered with word count and all.

Did you see what the title looks like in your first project ? Did you want to include ALL the subsections in the title ? Because it looks quite cluttered. Lynne has only just removed the word count, because that one was also in still this morning when I looked. See here: https://librivox.org/history-of-the-jews-in-russia-and-poland-volume-1-of-3-from-the-beginning-until-the-death-of-alexander-i-1825-by-simon-dubnow/

So you can include the word count for your convenience, I do that myself, but write them in the NOTE section, not in the TITLE section. :) That's all I was asking. Only write in the title section what you want to be seen in our catalogue as title.

Sonia,

I have checked different LV audiobooks. Simple titles look best. In the LV catalogue I would like to have just chapter no, title and part no(if applicable) like;

Section 1. Chapter 13. The Military Despotism of Nicholas I, Part 1
Section 2. Chapter 13. The Military Despotism of Nicholas I, Part 2
Section 3. Chapter 14. Compulsory Enlightenment and Increased Oppression, Part 1 ect.

For the time being, I would like to leave MW as it is. I will change MW like above when I upload last section. Is that OK?

Thanks.

yes the shorter titles look much cleaner, I agree. Ok you can leave them for now, but we need to remember to change them before I upload. Maybe you could correct each title when you finished a chapter ? Then each finished chapter will be totally fine and in the end you don't have to correct it all in one go. Just an idea.
