Emily of New Moon by Lucy Maud Montgomery (1874 - 1942).

Emily Starr, ten years old and recently orphaned, moves in with her aunts and experiences the ups and downs of preteen life in a small town, including starting and ending friendships, boy drama, school and discovering her lifelong passion for writing. By the author of Anne of Green Gables. The Emily books are considered more autobiographical than any of Montgomery's other works.

(I'll write a better summary later.) (Rachel)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/emilyofnewmoon00mont_1/
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Just a question - do you have a 1923 edition of the book?

The Gutenberg Australia text says 1923 on it. Would that qualify? Otherwise there's this: https://archive.org/details/emilyofnewmoon00mont_1/

PL Notes:

Chapter 1 @ 7:34 has a bad edit that cut out a few words. "She was very glad..... *She knew he had not slept*.........much for two nights." The part between the stars is approximately what is missing.

Chapter 2 is PL OK!

I haven't read the book for awhile, so it is nice to listen with somewhat fresh ears - not remembering every little thing ahead of time. :-)

quick update - I have the next chapter recorded, just need to find time to edit it. I have finals this week and next so I'm a bit swamped but things should slow down a bit in February so I can hopefully record things

This book has been mentioned a few times in Netflix's "Russian Doll" series if you're wondering why people are suddenly looking for it here :)
