Chapter 3, my suspicion is that Gibran didn't think much of marriage! He made it sound binding to the point of suffrage, advising couples to "lighten up". I fear my rendition conveyed that un-ease with "the ties that bind". After all he is a wandering wayfarer, an adventurer, not bound to anyone in the story, and in real life as well he never married. So maybe that's what he meant to say, though I don't think most people interpret it that way!

i found it to be a blend of both romantic and practical advice.

Whose wedding didn't (include some Gibran)! Blushing and laughing myself. Mine included the whole "Friendship" chapter. So many metaphors, similes, quotable quotes.

I am beginning to hear how the whole work will sound on completion.
Nicely, evenly read! By which I mean that there are neither melodramatic highs and lows.
A pleasant listenen, paced to allow for reader consideration of the philosophies.

Change is optional, but I veer a slight bit more towards the "his" side, since we are railing against a despot.

My comment on Gibran's line:
"For how can a tyrant rule the free and the proud, but for a tyranny in their own freedom and a shame in their own pride?"

Me: Well. By destroying those who do not comply with his every whim!
Ahhh, each of us to our time and place. I now read this line as tainted with a "blame the victim" slant.
Sweetness and light have their appropriateness, but the dirt and grit of the oppressed cannot be disregarded, according to my own vision.
