Here comes the bride !

I hope the weather is not becoming oppresive wherever you are. I watch the news programs and see what horrible storms are hitting some places I am enjoying a somewhat mild winter so far.

Thank you, aniroo!

Our weather was very hot, windy, and dry for a while all over California and many of my friends were evaculated for wildfires near the Western San Fernando Valley, but now everyone's back home (if the homes are still there) and the weather is nice and cool and moist.
I know you get severe weather where you live, so I'm glad to hear it is still OK.

My best,

Pam

Seems like it was just people looking for their 15 minutes of fame who tried to assassinate her. Nothing personal, just wanted to get their names in the news.

True! But it must have been nerve-wracking for the Queen.

Thanks, aniroo!

I knew some of the background of the Opium Wars, but this gave me more background. I'll have to read up some more about it. Seems like drug wars never end.

Hi aniroo,

The recent war and famine in Yemen may be traced to the events described in this chapter in Egypt and Syria. As a result of those alarms, Britain seized Aden in 1839 and used its ports until the late 50s without any regard to colonial development away from the coast. The country they left, Yemen, was a place of poverty, chaos, and corruption.

My best,
