A History of Our Own Times From the Accession of Queen Victoria to the General Election of 1880, Volume 1 by Justin McCarthy (1830 - 1912).

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page here:

https://librivox.org/a-history-of-our-own-times-vol1-by-justin-mccarthy/

An engaging history of Great Britain in the heyday of Queen Victoria and of her empire by the liberal Irish Member of Parliament, Justin McCarthy. He brings us the larger than life personalities of the day, Victoria and Albert, Russell and Peel, O'Connell and Palmerston, Gladstone and Disraeli, and relates great events, the Afghan War, the Irish famine, and the Crimean War without ever losing sight of the hopes and fears of the common people at home and abroad. (Pamela Nagami)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/in.ernet.dli.2015.210308
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

As my regular DPLs are busy with my other projects, I am looking for a DPL or just PLing as I go.

MW is up. I edited the intros to shorten up the title exception the first and last sections. See what you think.

We will hang out here for a day or two and see if a DPL volunteers. :)

So I'm a bit new to this, but is this a solo project? Either way, I'd like to narrate this book.

Thanks for your interest Dustynovels! It’s encouraging, but it is a solo and I’m the narrator. I have to fill that in. Sorry.

Hi,

I wasn't able to get into the MW to mark the sections but I did listen to them.

Section #2 was PL OK !

Both were easy to listen to and to understand since you give it such an intelligent and clear reading. However, there was a problem with section #1. It was too quiet. It only had a volume of 71.5. I amplified it +15 and it gave me a volume of 86.5 using the Checker program. That volume is within the parameters required by Librivox.

After you boost the volume, just upload the new section into the MW and I can have another listen and PL OK it as soon as I get access to the Window.

Looking forward to hearing the rest of this interesting project.

Thanks,

Thank you, aniroo!
I’m waiting for Jo, who will get you access to the MW.

I’m glad my reading is easy on your ears!

Very strange about the volume!

Will fix,

Very strange mishap! No idea how that happened!
