In the pseudoscientific discourse of the times there was a great deal of talk about the atavistic affects of "mongrelization," as it was called, when African people married with other races. Distressing, and mainstream racism of the not so distant past.

Hi Pam,

Section 04 is PL OK. Yes, the double think in that section was noteworthy - life under the Spanish was unendurable, and yet the sympathy clearly only extends so far.
