excellent job again, Jim. I haven't read anything of Thackeray yet, but Becky Sharpe's story seems an interesting one. So many good ideas in this book...sigh, not enough time to read them all.

This chapter is fully PL ok again.

I'm still here for another day, we're leaving on Sunday afternoon.

well, Jim, I started this morning with 32 PL jobs and wanted the shorties scratched off the list quite early on. So yours was the longest section and therefore at the bottom of my list (sorry

).

But seeing that I got to it this evening, I can happily announce that I have worked off all my backlog

This chapter is PL ok and very interesting, especially the risqué love of Lady Castlewood. Indeed, a woman falling in love and marrying the man she brought up as her boy must have been highly shocking in those times.

I think they may even have considered it a sort of incest, even though technically it wasn't. Thackeray was quite daring in developing such a storyline.

thanks, Jim. And this time at least I read one of the books. Jane Eyre of course is a classic and I loved it very much when I read it for my Gothic Novel class at university.

I found a little stumble to be amended:

> at 6:46: p. 218: the pause after "Ethel" seems a bit unnaturally long to me, but that's optional

> at 22:27: p. 226: there's a stumble here and a few words (underlined) can be cut out: "I have heard of Good Genii, aye there are strains, there are grains of truth in the wildest fable.

Chapter 19 is perfectly PL ok and this means the first volume is finished

I remember reading Wuthering Heights years ago and I recall I was totally confused by the different characters and their family relation to each other.

Maybe I need to read it once again one of these days.

Howells does a good job of explaining the relationships in Wuthering Heights. Yeah, it is worth a re-read, I must say. Here is Kingsley. I haven't read him at all. Obviously I should read Alton Locke at least, he being a member of the family.

yes maybe he is a distant relative

I haven't read any Kingsley either yet, but the author doesn't really seem to like his book either, as far as I can judge. He didn't really raise my interest in the Hypathia the way he depicted Kingsley's writing, to be honest. I am surprised here: he has plenty of heroines to choose from so why would he choose one he doesn't really much care about ?

Well in any case, I found two small notes this time:

> at 19:54: p. 10: usually you say the chapter numbers, but here you forgot to say "three"

> at 25:40: p.12: "with one hand she clasped her golden locks around her" - I hear "he" instead of "she" but I may be mistaken, just mentioning it so you can check it out once more.
