very interesting to listen to the author's scathing verdict of Scott's heroines. I didn't have this impression myself when I read Ivanhoe. Yes, I agree, Rowena was a bit bloodless, but Rebecca had more character. But it's been many years since I read the book, so maybe today I would have felt differently.

Need to check out the Bride of Lammermoor, that sounds like a tragic book.

only one note this time, concerning the volume: it is flagged as being a bit above 92 dB, could you decrease it maybe by 2 dB to be more inside the norm ?

thanks

Sorry about that. Here is the file with the sound within range. And, yes, I never had trouble, but then I was reading purely for pleasure--I love Scott.

hi Jim, I'm back and slowly working off my backlog PL jobs...

I don't know the story Jeanie Deans appears in, but it sounds like an interesting one. Cooper I'm not so much interested in though.

I found a short part of the sentence missing this time, but as it's not word perfect, I guess you don't really need to correct this. Just pointing it out, in case you wish to be complete. The underlined words are missing:

> at 8:08: (p. 105) “when Jeanie goes to London, alone and unfriended, to sue for the King’s mercy”

I'll mark the section PL ok though and let you decide. :)

Thanks

great, Jim, you're so easy-going and efficient. :9: Definitely PL ok now.

BTW I have started World Story Part 3 in the Launch Pad. Can I count on you again to check my own sections ? (you can say no, I won't be angry)

perfect chapter again, totally PL ok. Yes, poor Bulwer-Lytton, he often seems to be remembered for his cheesy writing  I remember the very old movie of Last days of Pompeii with a very young Christine Kauffmann. I liked the movie when I was a kid. I haven't read the book though. By Bulwer-Lytton, I only started "My novel" but the book was so huge  that somehow I couldn't get to the end of it.

Your literary knowledge and experience always amaze me. I knew about Bulwer-Lytton and The Last Days of Pompeii but never got around to anything by him. Thanks for the listen. :D

perfect section, once again, Jim :) PL ok. Oooh the end of Nancy is quite gruesome. I must admit I have never read Oliver Twist, in fact I haven't read many Dickens novels yet. Although the few I did read I enjoyed very much. I did start Pickwick Papers but they didn't hook me at all though  and I didn't get far. Couldn't get into the story at all.

Thanks for these insights !

Oh just one small note: you left 5 seconds between the end of the chapter and the outro. It feels a bit long to a listener, but since the section is done then anyway, it's not really important to change anything. Just wanted to let you know.

A period of mourning? Just kidding, of course. Absentmindedness, senility, OCD, all of the above? Thanks for your listen and always for your help and support!
