The Bittings have written a number of books on canning and home preparation of food. This short volume includes a brief description of the preparation and production of ketchup and a more scientific treatment of this condiment and its ingredients. ( Larry Wilson)

Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen.Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.

     Set your recording software to:
     Channels: 1 (Mono)
     Bit Rate: 128 kbps
     Sample Rate: 44.1 kHz
  7. DURING recording:
     No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!
     Make sure you add this to the beginning of your recording:
     START of recording (Intro)
     • "Section [number] of Ketchup. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
     • If you wish, say: "Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"

  8. AFTER recording
     Need noise-cleaning?
     Listen to your file through headphones. If you can hear some constant background noise (hiss/buzz), you may want to clean it up a bit. The latest version of Audacity is recommended for noise-cleaning. See this LibriVox wiki page for a complete guide.

     128 kbps MP3
     ketchup_##_bitting_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. ketchup_01_bitting_128kb.mp3)
  9. Example ID3 V2 tags ID3 tags are now optional. They are added automatically during cataloging.

I intended to include in the Introduction that first unnamed paragraph and the one labeled just , "Ketchup."
The final section, "Structure of the Tomato," is about 3,400 words. I had divided it for easier reading, but if you would like to record this as one section, that is fine, of course. Just let Jo know and she can delete a section.
I have not put the word counts in the MW, but have them if it would be of help to you.

Also, I believe you can use the abbreviate disclaimer for solo projects. Since this was started using the collaborative project template, it doesn't show up but it would be something like the following. Use the standard disclaimer as given for the first section (Introduction) the for the following sections:

"Chapter [number] of Ketchup by A. W. Bitting, K. G. Bitting. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
Recording by [your name], "[Chapter title]"

When you record and upload the section, just post it as usual to the project thread. I will put it in the MW for PL. If you want to put them in the MW, that is fine, but I'm glad to do it.

Peter: For "standard" PL, I normally compare the recording to the text as I'm listening but do not mention minor deviations. I also normally do not comment on pronunciation. if you want me to do anything different or beyond standard just let me know. And, of course, all PL comments are merely suggestions. You and Larry are in charge.

Silverquill, I've just realised that you've assigned a whole section to the introduction. It's only a few sentences long; would it be possible to include it in the first section, or would it be too messy to number the remaining sections after deleting the intro section?
