Ketchup by A. W. Bitting (1870 - 1946) and others.

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page here:

https://librivox.org/ketchup-by-a-w-bitting/

The Bittings have written a number of books on canning and home preparation of food. This short volume includes a brief description of the preparation and production of ketchup and a more scientific treatment of this condiment and its ingredients. ( Larry Wilson)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/56703
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Something a little different popped up on Gutenberg -- the ubiquitous American condiment.

I'd be happy to take this on as a solo, if it's possible.

I will wait until Larry responds to this before I set it up, but I can MC this project either way.

Why, if you'd like, that is fine with me. I've got plenty of projects on my to-do list. 8-)
Do you want the complete solo role - setting up the MW, etc.
Or I can BC and you can just enjoy the reading. Either way is fine with me.

Silverquill, I'd be grateful if you'd be BC; I'll try not to cause any problems. Thanks for taking on the MC, Jo.

And thanks for the DPL offer, Penumbra.

I should have the first section / chapter up within the next three days.

MW is now up. I've given both Larry and Peter access as BC and altBC, and Tom as DPL. Moving the thread to Going Solo now. :)

Wonderful! Thanks for setting this up, Jo.
I've put the section names in the MW.

Peter,
I intended to include in the Introduction that first unnamed paragraph and the one labeled just , "Ketchup."
The final section, "Structure of the Tomato," is about 3,400 words. I had divided it for easier reading, but if you would like to record this as one section, that is fine, of course. Just let Jo know and she can delete a section.
I have not put the word counts in the MW, but have them if it would be of help to you.

Also, I believe you can use the abbreviate disclaimer for solo projects. Since this was started using the collaborative project template, it doesn't show up but it would be something like the following. Use the standard disclaimer as given for the first section (Introduction) the for the following sections:

"Chapter [number] of Ketchup by A. W. Bitting, K. G. Bitting. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
Recording by [your name], "[Chapter title]"

When you record and upload the section, just post it as usual to the project thread. I will put it in the MW for PL. If you want to put them in the MW, that is fine, but I'm glad to do it.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.

That's fine; thanks, silverquill. I'd already recorded the start of chapter one, and did include the short preface.

Peter: For "standard" PL, I normally compare the recording to the text as I'm listening but do not mention minor deviations. I also normally do not comment on pronunciation. if you want me to do anything different or beyond standard just let me know. And, of course, all PL comments are merely suggestions. You and Larry are in charge.

Silverquill, I've just realised that you've assigned a whole section to the introduction. It's only a few sentences long; would it be possible to include it in the first section, or would it be too messy to number the remaining sections after deleting the intro section?

***
EDIT: please ignore this note. I'll do the sections as you suggest, with the very short preface and the introduction as the first section.
