Thanks! And yeah, I liked that line, too. No hurry with any of this, of course.

Hi Barbara,

Yeah, it’s been awful, like in Southern Australia.
The nearest one is four miles from me, but in the foothills, while I’m on the flatland.

Enjoy the Merovingians (if that is possible),

Thanks Pam. PL OK and enjoyable in a horrible sort of way. I wonder if the plague was what was rather grandly called The Plague of Justinian? I'll probably find out in the next thrilling chapter.

I heard or read recently that we live in the best of times (I agree but my coevals prefer to moan) and that the period since 1945 has been the longest in history in which no army has crossed the Rhine.

Hoping you are still safe and not affected by the smoke.

Best,

Hi Barbara,

Thanks!
Fires in my neighborhood are abating, but the big one in Ventura County rages on at the Santa Barbara border, I think.
The Justinian plague was bubonic and the Antonine, probably smallpox.
I wish Justinian had let the Ostrogoths alone.

On the better things, I hope,

Pam

Hi Laurie Anne,

I had to correct a misspelling in the Chapter 5 filename and upload the corrected one.

Thanks,

Thanks! I can also correct file names in a batch at cataloging time without having to reupload the files, so no worries if it happens again -- it'll get fixed.

PL OK Pam.

I have decided to get to know Byzantium so downloaded to my ancient Kindle a book by a favourite local personality:

I noticed that the last book I downloaded was "Bitten"!

Thanks, Barbara!

Please tell me if that book proves interesting!

Have you seen “Kedi” a film about Istanbul’s cats?
Really worth a look.

Funny about “Bitten”!
