My best,

Perfect. PL OK. The Second Council of Nicea and Irene are fresh in my mind - I was reading about them in "Ghost Empire" just last night. So we are marching through history together at the moment...

My best,

Thanks Pam, I think I'm getting the hang of the pre-Medieval period now. PL OK.

For ages I've been trying to think whereabouts in the study I could pin up Dürer's splendid notion of Charlemagne, perhaps paired with his Emperor Sigismund....hmmm....

Thanks, Barbara. That Sigismund was quite a larger than life character! But I didn't remember Dürer's Charlemagne.

My best,

Pam
PL OK and a very satisfying chapter. We stayed in a semi-ruined medieval monastery in Troyes back in the last millenium. I eagerly googled but, alas, it cannot have been Saint Lupus's.

And I think the author was a bit rude about the uncial script, elegant as it often is.

Thanks, Barbara,

That's nice about the abbey, even if wasn't Saint Lupus.

And let's have no more uncial bashing, Mr. Masterman!
