bitrate is 99kbps not 128kbps.
volume is at the lower limit (86.0dB). If you highlight from 14:28-file end and just amplify this section by 3dB the file will be close to the recommended 89dB.

Sorry about that. Have finally replaced my ageing laptop, which of course means all the things I sorted as default and forgot about long ago are coming back with a vengeance. Hopefully that's that sorted now.

Ah, cool! Seen puffins a few times, and I do hope I can see them again next year at the Farne Islands if I can manage it (which actually wouldn't be any harder than asking my grandparents if they fancy taking me, but that would feel like cheating. Arctic terns there are pretty brilliant too). I've never seen pufflings in real life before though, only on TV. Whereabouts did you see them?

Even though it was the end of the breeding season (October) we saw pufflings on the Westman Islands (off the southern tip of Iceland). The school children would find them wandering around the city center (attracted by the lights maybe) and they would ask their parents to drive them to the nesting sites and then would fling the pufflings into the ocean (as the puffling's parents had already left).

Sorry I haven't done anything recently. I'm afraid I've been quite ill for a bit (including completely losing my voice for a couple of days) so haven't been able to. I'll get back on to it when I can.

That's an interesting story about the pufflings. Part of me is hoping that these were nearly adult birds that can look after themselves, and just got a bit lost, rather than the ritual sacrifice of chicks that would otherwise need hand-rearing.

We were told that the pufflings were old enough to fend for themselves.

Section 7 is up.

Actually, a lot of fledglings can look nothing like their parents and still be capable of looking after themselves. I'd forgotten that!

Section 9 up.

I've never seen one, but I've been quite impressed with Storm Petrels ever since catching this section (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKi0Y_F1fno) on The One Show a while ago. I hadn't realised just how small they were!
