King and Baronage (A.D. 1135-1327) by William Holden Hutton (1860 - 1930).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/king-and-baronage-by-william-holden-hutton/

William Holden Hutton (1860-1930) was a British historian and Dean of Winchester Cathedral. In this slim volume, Hutton writes of the long period of feudal anarchy following the death of King Henry I in 1135, during which Henry's implacable daughter, Mathilda, battled the ineffectual King Stephen. Hutton then describes the turbulent reign of the great King Henry II, the reigns of Kings Richard, John, Henry III, and of the first two Edwards, rulers who whether weak or strong, rigid or resourceful, were grimly opposed by their powerful barons. IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

You are most welcome, my good woman. It's PL OK, and my, but it's off with a bang!

A bit of pedantry - in the MW, I'm seeing the chapter number for chapter one as a Roman numeral, but not any of the other chapter numbers. Is that what you're seeing, or should I get my eyes tested?

Hi Anne,

I edited the first chapter heading thanks to Erin's sharp eyes.

Pam, I'm really, really sorry to be such a horrible pedant, but I think I've just noticed something I didn't see earlier. Could you please double check the year span on chapter 7? I think the first year should be 1307, but I could be wrong.

I'll leave you in peace now!

This is a long chapter but about a worthy subject, the great Henry II.

My best and thank you,

Pam

Please don't denigrate this based on length. If it is longer, there is more for me to enjoy.

I've noted two things:

7.31-7.36. Mid-paragraph, second paragraph on p. 19:
Chief among these was Thomas Becket, Archdeacon [heard Archbishop] of Canterbury...

24.30-24.36. Bottom of p. 26:
...and the English pale (or boundary) included Meath, Leinster, and part of [heard the port of] Munster.
