How Mr. Rabbit Lost His Tail by Albert Bigelow Paine (1861 - 1937).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/how-mr-rabbit-lost-his-tail-by-albert-bigelow-paine/
A small selection of children's stories from the Hollow Tree Stories series ( David Gore)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/28204
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

OK, your MW is up and ready for you! We will wait here a day or so to see if we can pick up a DPL. Also, I shortened the file number down to one digit since there are less than 10 sections in the project.

I'll volunteer to DPL this one. I read enough of chapter one to know it'll be fun to listen to.

My deep male voice scared my two-year-old grandnieces, but both warmed to me by the time they turned three. I hope I don't create nightmares with this!

Well then, we're off. Two fifths done, in fact, because chapters 1 and 2 are perfect (and marked PL OK in the magic window.)

So Mr. Dog 'borrowed' three chickens from Mr. Man? Hmmm.

'Borrowed', I think, in much the same way my son 'borrows' tools from me! (...and perhaps as I borrowed from my dad!)

Chapter 3, When Mr. 'Coon Was A Little Boy, is now up: https://librivox.org/uploads/icequeen/howmrrabbitlosthistail_3_paine_128kb.mp3

David -
At around 1:50 you read:
Mr. 'Coon told them his story, and I guess we'll call it
but, imho, it should be:
Mr. 'Coon told them his story, and I guess we'll call it Mr. 'Coon's early adventure

"Mr. 'Coon's early adventure" is set in big bold letters in the Gutenberg text (HTML version) so it looks like a chapter title, but it finishes the Story Teller's sentence.

If you agree could you drop that phrase in there and re-upload.

What a great book. I'm enjoying your reading.

Thank you!

I wrestled with that sentence for several minutes, reading and re-reading, trying to understand its meaning. I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that it never occurred to me that it might be an incomplete sentence, nor did it occur to me to check a different source - I just struggled unsuccessfully with different inflections to make it make sense. I'll know better next time (I hope!)

Of course I agree - I'll have a fix applied within the half-hour.

And Chapter 4 is now uploaded: https://librivox.org/uploads/icequeen/howmrrabbitlosthistail_4_paine_128kb.mp3
