The Fates of the Princes of Dyfed by Cenydd Morus (1879 - 1937).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-fates-of-the-princes-of-dyfed-by-cenydd-morus/
Cenydd Morus's (Kenneth Morris) imaginative retelling of tales from the Mabinogion, the great work of Welsh literature first recorded in the 12th-13th century. Written while he was working for the Theosophical Society in California, Morris's version restores the Gods that he believed had disappeared from the written record but must have been present in the oral tradition of the Druid bards. First published in 1914 and republished in the 1970s as the 15th volume in the celebrated Newcastle Forgotten Fantasy Library. ( Phil Benson)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/100331139
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Here's the Preface. I've been practicing my Welsh pronunciation, but I've no idea if I'm really getting it right :?

I've set up your MW, my attendance will be a bit patchy this week - visitors everywhere so send a PM if you are really stuck.

Hello again Phil,

One note for the preface:
19.16, mid-page, end of paragraph, omission (perhaps it sounded like a repetition when it really wasn't, and there's an extra version on the raw file?)
she is there!

Judging by the preface alone this book sounds very promising indeed!

I'll be on the move at the very end of this month and the beginning of August. Not for very long, but I thought I'd mention it.

Ready for PL, Parts 1-3, the first section. I still need to work out what titles to put in the MW - they are so long!

Enjoy your travels and there will be a few files waiting for you when you return...

Just a typo, and corrected it now. Thanks for noticing that!

BTW, You may be interested in these two picture galleries I made of pictures by Alfred Heaton Cooper. They are from two A & C Black Popular Colour Series books on the Lake District - the books are a bit dry, but I like the pictures!

Hi Phil!

No postcard from this trip, I'm sorry to say. It was pretty quick. I did send you a postcard in May, but I think that one must be like a message in a bottle and it'll turn up in thirty years!

Parts 1 and 2 are PL OK. In part 3, I heard 'end of part 4' on the outro. When you've worked out the section titles for the MW, I'll spot check all the files just to make sure there aren't any obvious clashes.

A general teaching moment, because you know what I'm like: in this context, 'mien' sounds more like 'mean'.

I don't know these stories at all, and I'm enjoying it. I'm glad this one was on the Newcastle list!

Parts 0 and 3 corrected and uploaded. 'Mien' - i have looked that one up before, but it obviously had now effect!

I have a nice postcard of standing stones on Orkney. Is that the one?

Just to tempt you with more intriguing distractions... the beta website for a project on poetry of the Cotton Famine has been launched. I hope you like reading some of these!

Before you get your hopes up, in my quick check I couldn't work out what copyright, if any, they're claiming on the transcriptions. But if you would like to record some of these, at least you have the text to search with!
