A Holy Life the Beauty of Christianity by John Bunyan (1628 - 1688).

Marked Abandoned July 15, 2017. Adopted by Scarlet576.

Quote:
Written in the late 1600s by John Bunyan, author of The Pilgrim's Progress, this treatise exhorts Christians to holy living. Bunyan takes as his text Psalm 93:5, 'Holiness becometh thine house, O Lord, forever,' and from it he presents true holiness as true beauty, calling his fellow believers out of the religious hypocrisy of his era to a genuine pursuit of God. Spiritually, this work is a little-known gem from a respected religious figure, and historically it is a unique look at the Christian church and family in the seventeenth century. Whatever your reason for coming to 'A Holy Life,' it is worth the read...or listen. ( Jennifer Raimundo)

  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/6047
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): Special: standard, plus any possible deviations from the text that make the listener go, "Huh?" PL does not have to follow along with the text.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I would appreciate a word-perfect DPL if that is at all possible. Thanks to anyone who is willing to take this project up!

I'm leery about the text source you're using. Do we know the publication year of the work this was transcribed from? (It could be an edition edited after 1922, which would be a problem for us.)

And we'd need to check with the website, that they've released their transcription into the public domain (they reserve no rights/limitations to it).

I'll pop him a message using his Contact page.

Oh, thanks for catching that, Tricia. Oops, sorry.
I found this same edition on various website so I guess I assumed it was public and didn't read that second sentence.
Do you want me to message him or should you?

I'd just switch to the Gutenberg text: https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/6049 (easiest to find if you do a text search for "beauty of Christianity"). edited to add: Or this one, which might load a little bit faster: https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/6047

You're welcome! Life would be even better if Gutenberg had it as a standalone piece so you didn't have to pick through the Complete Works to get to it. I could see where it started but not so much where it ended.

I'll be happy to MC this, unless Tricia was planning to. I'll go ahead and set it up and then I can transfer it to Tricia if she likes.

edit: You're all set!

Can you believe, I didn't even think to check Gutenberg? I went straight to Archive and only found a partial, old-type (long S, etc.) scan.

And I'm perfectly OK not MC'ing it. :)

Cool! And thanks Tricia again for catching that. I could have been in deep doodoo.

So, the text of 'A Holy Life' ends after the 15 notes. The next text is called 'Christian Behaviour' and we don't want to read that one...for now. Speaking of footnotes, they are so few, so short, and so interesting that I plan on reading them. I'll begin each footnote with 'Beginning of Footnote [#}' and end with 'Signed the Editor. End of Footnote [#].' Sound good?

Oh, and I very much look forward to working with a chocoholic.

I'll be getting a recording up soon. We have to stay here in this forum until we get a DPL, right?

No, we can move anytime. I thought I'd leave it here for another day or two, and if no one has signed on by the time we move to Solos, either you or I can post an ad for a PL'er in the Listeners Wanted forum.

Sounds good to me! I don't mind camping here for a bit and then moving out.

Moved to Solos! You might want to wait to post a PL'ing ad until you've got a recording up, but it doesn't really matter. I'm happy to post the ad, or you can do it if you'd rather. No problem either way. :)
