Hi Again

Section 18 has been uploaded.

https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/per ... mboldt.mp3
24 min 43.6 sec, 89.9 dB.

Lots and lots of geology in here. Could be another section that is quite good for falling asleep.

Thanks for listening!

I'm always impressed with how much geology he knew.

Thanks for that.

He was a mining engineer as a (only slightly) younger man. I'm impressed with how he attempts to integrate observations across disciplines.

Anyway, Section 19 is uploaded.

https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/per ... mboldt.mp3
25 min 9.5 sec, 87.7 dB.

They did do some crazy things. Electrocuting themselves with eels is perhaps the tops, but... Imagine if you will, AvH and Bonpland standing on the top of a wardrobe or similar piece of furniture, watching..... that's toward the end of the Section.....

Cheers

19 PL OK.

That kind of integration requires (IMHO) a fairly good understanding of each discipline.

Agreed — but also the mindset to synthesise connections outside the convention of the time.

I have no doubt that he would fit into my “scary smart” category. Yet he seems not to have been a social misfit. I bet his brain explosions were awesome to witness.

Saw footage of the Humboldt squid on Planet II the other night. Now that is a scary beast!

Thanks for listening.

I cannot resist as I am reading:

Don't we all wish we could write sentences like this.

And now for the context for the great sentence. Quite a lot of lovely writing in this.

Like Darwin, some day I hope to visit the places described by AvH in his "Narrative."

Hello David and Anne -

Section 21 is uploaded. I enjoyed this section - and it included !! lightnin' bugs !! Although we have glow worms in NZ, they just aren't the same as fireflies.

https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/per ... mboldt.mp3

21 min 51.2 sec, 88.3 dB.

Anne - I noticed just now that I messed up the metadata for Sections 19 AND 20 (!!) -- the track Titles are wrong. I don't know how things work for you at cataloguing, and now that many projects don't bother with metadata if it is helpful or irrelevant. Anyway, I am happy to repair the files and reload - just let me know what is easiest for you - it is very quick to fix the metadata and upload again.

Thanks

21 PL OK.

We thought the glow worms were pretty cool. Of course fireflies are a child's delight.

Just leave it - I can fix it in the cataloguing phase - I often do anyhow , just in case there is a slight typo thatwill lead to some mp3 players mishandling them
