Hello -

Section 29 is now ready for listening. It might be a bit quiet at 87.2 dB. Let me know ..... and I'll see what I can do to increase the volume if you find it so.

28 min 55.0 sec, 87.2 dB

And, I've now divided up the rest of the book. It comes to 44 sections, so quite a way to go yet, although most of those sections are under 4000 words.

Thanks for listening

Volume seems fine. I don't remember but have you ever used Effect/Compressor?

Hi -

Section 30 is uploaded, and that is the end of Chapter 3.31. Just 3.32 to go - I hope you are in the mood for some geology - 14 Sections of it. We are not going to have a ripper of an ending.

https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/personalnarrative3_30_humboldt.mp3
17:51.1, 89.0 dB.

Yes, I have used Effect/Compressor before. I vary between using Compressor and Amplify, but if Amplify doesn't make it up to volume, then I use Compressor and hope not to introduce much distortion.

Thanks

Had the field not seemed like botany (naming stuff) I might have become a geologist.

Hi Again --

Section 32 is read and uploaded. In this section, we are back to multiplicities of tongue-twister names, which meant quite a lot more editing than the usual seemingly lots of editing, so you may very well find a mistake. Please let me know.

As a warning, though, at 13:37 vicinity, he goes back to his practice of providing three different spellings/pronunciations for the same name, so that may sound like a repeat, but isn't (I hope).

Unless you are familiar with Andean geography, this is best read/listened to with a map at hand or it's just a bunch of place names.

28 min, 0.3 sec, 89.0 dB.

Thanks for the QC.

First day of spring in the north. Good time to get the boots on.

What I wonder is how you train for hiking (hill work) in Chicago. The ‘bean’ is up a bit of a slope and I think there is a sledding slope somewhere West loopish. ...

Hello -

Section 33 is uploaded for listening. Another candidate for an "insomnia collection".

https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/personalnarrative3_33_humboldt.mp3
21 min 1.1 sec, 89.0 dB

Another warning about the text. At 19:31.3, the text reads "in 5 and 5 degrees". It sounds like a repeat, especially the way I stumbled through it and didn't correct it, but it is the text.

The All Blacks are certainly big lads. The gym I attended some years ago was where the Canterbury provincial team, containing many ABs, used to train. Big lads -- but it sounds like they make the elevators small in Dunedin!

Thanks

I was trying to figure out if we had exceeded the weight limit but it took me too long to figure it out before we exited the elevator.

Hi -

Section 34 is now uploaded.

https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/personalnarrative3_34_humboldt.mp3

20 min, 8.8 sec, 89.2 dB

Fewer tongue twisters here, easier to read, but still one for an insomnia collection. I fear the rest of the Personal Narrative will be similar.....

Cheers

Gail

We need some sweeping generalizations.
