Alas, gold and conquistadors.

Here is Section 06. There are some awkward sentences in here complete with "note - end note" in the middle of them - I may have messed up - let me know if anything jumps out; I hope not. Also he seems to be into pronouncing the same place name 2 or 3 different ways, some of which sound very alike, so may seem like repeats to you. I think what he is trying to do is to harmonise or interrelate different historical texts, although that isn't totally clear to me.

32 min 12.10 sec, 89.6 dB.

Fortunately, AvH starts travelling again in Chapter 3.26. However, there is more about gold to test your endurance in Section 7.

Cheers, and thanks.

Hello David --

Spring is here finally!

Here is Section 7. Conquistadors and (your favourite) auriferous lands. Not as many "repeats" in the writing, but some....

https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/personalnarrative3_07_humboldt.mp3
32 min 11.9 sec, 89.0 dB

Hope all is well.

Is it fairly recently that you have become a MC, or have I been blind?

Thanks

Yes, I'm still quite a newbie when it comes to MC skills.

Anne
Wow - you MCs have magic wands ?!?!

Here is Section 8

https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/personalnarrative3_08_humboldt.mp3

We are on the move again, a little bit.

It is 24 min 40.40 sec, and for two recordings in a row I have managed to hit 89.0 dB according to the software that I use. Fluke.

Cheers, and thanks

Hello --

Beautiful spring day here. My rhododendrons are just starting to flower (Anne - yours if you have them are probably more advanced.)

https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/personalnarrative3_09_humboldt.mp3
28:26.1, 88.8 dB

Thanks

9 PL OK.

Waiting to see if it will be a colorful fall this year. A dry fall often means not.

The midwest gets such beautiful fall colours.

So, Section 10 is ready.

21 min 13.4 sec, 87.9 dB.

AvH is proposing ecological modification of the llanos!!!

Many thanks.

Hi

Section 11 is ready now.

https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/personalnarrative3_11_humboldt.mp3

26 min 34.8 sec, 89.2 dB.

I had to "Compress" the file twice to get the volume in the right place. Please let me know if you detect any distortion as you listen. This is the first time that I've had to do that. (Some time ago I changed my practice from using "Amplify" to using the "Compressor" for adjusting the dB. Compressor seems to give a better result most of the time.)

Some interesting snippets in this section -- AvH is intrigued by erratics -- and he must be writing this at the time when the theory around the observation of glacial erratics was just new. Also, he gets picked up briefly by "privateers", but rescued. On the down side, there were 7 (!) lines of Latin on a subject that he must have felt too delicate to write in the original French (keeping an Agaricus muscari intoxication going by drinking the urine passed after consumption).

Did you get your colourful fall? Halloween today - and I remember most of the leaves being gone from the trees by then in the upper midwest.

Cheers
