The first post is missing the title - you can edit it by clicking on the edit button

I notice you have over 300 sections. It is not possible for us to have more than 255 sections - it is impossible to catalogue it as Archive will not handle that number.

This best thing to do would be to combine some chapters - they don't appear very long, but you'll need to do a bit of page counting /word counting to find out if that will be possible

Hi there - well done with the template!

I see the book has 7 volumes, the first one contains 39 letters on some 300 pages. Maybe it's a better idea to read one volume at a time and have it catalogued instead of looking at a whole Mount Richardson?

Then we wouldn't have a problem with the number of sections either

Thank you both for the advice! I know Mt. Richardson is an undertaking, but I'd love to have this book on my comps list a year or two down the road and what better way to get intimately acquainted with Sir Charles Grandison? Hopefully Harriet and Clementina won't be too jealous, though honestly, I'm most interested in Charlotte.

If this will work, I'd like to break up the novel into sections of about 4500-6000 words and do it as one audiobook. I listen to a lot of Librivox during my commute and I've found that it is most convenient when the sections are longer and multivolume works are together in just one audiobook. Sometimes the next section doesn't begin automatically, which can be a hassle on the highway.

Will that work? I've begun breaking up the novel. Do I just need to edit the code in the original post when I know precisely how many sections there will be?

It would be easiest to know how many sections you need when the project is set up. We can add and delete sections, but it must be done one at a time, so it's much quicker for everyone to get close from the get go.

I have the text, including the preface and concluding note, broken up into 126 sections. I tried to stay between 4500-6000 words, but some sections are longer and just a few are shorter. I think I should be able to keep the sections below the maximum file size.

I understand that you're very enthusiastic about this book - which is a good thing!

However, a very quick calculation according to your numbers shows that the book will be at least 80 hours of completed recording. That will take you at least 320 hours of work.

And with 126 sections and a time horizon of 2 years, that means you will have to do one section - 3 hours - per week. I know that doesn't sound much, but it means each and every week for two years - no matter whether you're sick, on vacation, whether the extended family is over, or whether there's noisy roadwork outside.

Even very, very experienced readers would think several times before starting something enormous like this.
We usually recommed newbies to start a solo that's significantly smaller than this. But since you are so invested in the project, I would suggest to at least break the project up in the volumes that are there - because that's how the author has written the book, and also because it will give you some nice milestones to work towards and look back at.

Hi,
I am talking from personal expirience. The first project I managed had 107 sections. Like you, I refused to divide it to volumes, and for exactly the same reasons. I still adamently refuse to divide works into volumes. My advice to you is this: give yourself a deadline of three years from now, not two. Give yourself some space. And record a few sections in group projects before you begin to gain expirience, know interesting books, and have a more acurate estimated recording time. Yes, it is rather donting. But it can be done if you stick to it.

No one wants to discourage you, and everything said so far is just advice even that from admins. You've sucessfully and rapidly read a few chapters so you do know what's involved, if you go ahead with the whole book. It's better to be doing something how you want to, which will give a finished result you want.

I'm not feeling discouraged and I do appreciate all the feedback from more experienced readers.

Several of my classmates also commute to UI listening to LV, so I'd like to stay commuter friendly. I'd like to do one volume with 225 sections. Some days it will be easier to find time to record shorter sections. Why don't we extend the deadline to three years? I should have a lot of time to record during my summer breaks, but a more distant deadline will relieve some pressure.
