The Hound From the North by Ridgwell Cullum (1867 - 1943).

This project is now complete! All audio files can now be found on the catalog page for this project: https://librivox.org/the-hound-from-the-north-by-ridgwell-cullum/
An "Old West" adventure story featuring rugged individuals, only instead of cowboys, banditos, and horses, the cast is Canadian border guards, miners, natives and dogsleds. And snow and ice replaces the sagebrush. I haven't read far enough ahead but i suspect the lithesome young white female of the north country will be identical with the pretty ranch gal in the classic Western... ;-) [Proper Summary will be provided by the end of the project.] ( Lisa Reichert)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/29695
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

All set, I think. As normal, you don't have to add ID3 tags if you dont want to. Please holler if you need something

got a question:

i just filled in the Section titles in the MW. Chapter 5 has a title that is in single quotation marks. The rules say "no double quotation marks". Are the single quotation marks messing up the works and should i just ignore them? And in the same chapter title: it looks like one long dash in the printed work but i changed it to two short dashes, which i think is equivalent, but should there be a space before and after this double dash? or is having the words right up against the double dash fine?

Thanks,
~Lis.

Great, you're off ;)

To answer your questions:
- I normally put in two single quotation marks instead of double, it looks the same and doesn't mess up anything ;)
- whether to put a space between the word and the double dashes is up to you, I think. I'm sure style guides like MLA and APA would have something to say about that (though not necessarily the same!), so as far as I'm concerned you can choose whichever you find more visually pleasing. I think we see both in print :)

I'll add a ~ to the title line, maybe a DPL will come along. We can stay here a day or two before moving over to Going solo.

1 PL OK.

Exciting beginning. I'll update the MW once I have been added to the project.

Lisa,
As you now have a DPL you can edit your first post and remove the ~ before the word "solo" in the title line.

If you click the edit-button on the first post in the thread, you can edit the subject line for the whole thread. You can only do it if you wrote the first post
