Section 15 uploaded and ready to go. Henry Maudslay Part 2. He was not only a really good mechanical engineer, it sounds like he treated his staff well too. Sounds too good to be true ....

Section 16 has been uploaded and is ready for PLing. Joseph Clement, engineer and draftsman. Since technical drawing (drafting) is what I spend most of my time doing as a mechanical engineer I have probably more in common with Clement than with any of the other engineers in this book!

Section 21 is uploaded and ready for PL. I've recorded the last part, but I'll get on and write a summary first.
Nearly there!

Section 22 is uploaded.
That is the last chapter - so we are done and ready to catalog (assuming everything is OK on PLing).
Woo hoo!

I think that is the point Samuel Smiles was trying to make. I have rewritten the summary at the start of the project to reflect this. As far as I can tell one of the motivations that drove Smiles to write this book was to provide real examples of men who had improved their station in life through thrift, education and hard work. Because of their lack of money that education was almost always self-education. I think it is no coincidence that this book was published only four years after "Self Help".
Regarding thrift - recall the story about James Nasmyth making his little slow cooker so he could survive on ten shillings a week wages at Maudslay's engineering firm? He didn't indulge in butter on his bread for the first year until he got a pay rise!
