The Inner Shrine by Basil King (1859 - 1928).

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-inner-shrine-by-basil-king/
At the opening of this story Diane Eveleth returns from a party in Paris to her mother-in-law, who tells her that her husband George Eveleth has been killed in a duel, fought with the Marquis de Bienville. Diane secretly transfers her remaining patrimony to her mother-in-law and the two women sail for New York, where the elder woman has relatives.

Here Diane is offered the situation of chaperone for the daughter Dorothea of Derek Pruyn, a widower whom she has met before. Eventually, Pruyn makes her an offer of marriage. She withholds her answer until his return from a voyage to South America, when she is prepared to accept him, but on his home-coming she finds his attitude towards her completely changed. Pruyn has encountered de Bienville on his voyage and has heard from him that Diane was unfaithful to her husband.

The book concentrates on how the relationships between the various protagonists develop.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

OK, all set up.

Couple of things:
- you don't have to add ID3 tags; if you fill in the title fields in the MW, I can easily do that automatically at time of cataloguing.
- at the end, when you're writing the catalog text, you can also supply some keywords we could add to the catalog page.
- you've now selected historical fiction as the genre. I can't make it out clearly in a quick scan of the text, but the illustrations on the gutenberg text look more contemporary to 1909 (in the clothes I mean), rather than historical - but perhaps you can decide at the end of the book what will be the best genre.

Let me know if you have any questions, or if I've forgotten something. Shall we leave the project in the Launch Pad for a bit, to see if a PL-er comes along?
I look forward to working with you.

Thanks, Anna, for this. Happy to be working with you.

Yes, I'll add the necessary at the end - always hard to do this to start off. I hadn't thought about the 'historical' tag but I see the point. I'll sort this later as well.

Hopefully a PL-er will pick this up - I've asked Betty (I think she is 'libraryanne') if she wants to do it - she's worked with me before.

I'll get cracking in the next few days - :)

Hi Simon,
Chaps 4 and 5 are both PL OK! There's a lot going on in this story already. :)
