Hi Pam,

Chapter 1 is PL OK.

Good luck with your experimenting. I admire your dedication, and I hope that a stand or some other solution (or even partial solution) will work.

Hi Pam,

Chapter 2 is PL OK, but uhhhh, those poor children. This is a fascinating companion to Gaskell's biography of Charlotte.

Hi Pam,

You're right. It doesn't help knowing what's coming, it's still horrendous to hear. I'm glad Robinson is giving this so much consideration, even if it's tough going.

PL OK.

Yes, here you see why a woman biographer is key.
Thanks!

Hi Pam,

Chapter 4 is PL OK. Although I'm sorry you had to tackle some of the Yorkshire stuff - it's a beautiful accent, but I'm biased! I knew you could handle the French in Margaret without breaking a sweat, but I wasn't expecting Robinson to use any regional writing in this. Perhaps I should have been.

Have a good weekend!

Hi Erin,

Thank you!

Yes. Sorry to disappoint. But nothing is worse than Americans doing bad British accents!

Hi Pam,

Crikey, I didn't mean it like that. I meant that there is a popular image of the Brontes as Yorkshire, but sanitised Yorkshire. As in, I think one of the film adaptations of Wuthering Heights from about twenty years ago had Ralph Fiennes as Heathcliff. He's a fine actor, but he isn't exactly a rough stray, a hardened labourer or a changeling! Some actors will have a go at the accent, but I think 'Bronte Yorkshire', at least now, is often emphasised by the stunning landscape more than anything else. Robinson's certainly stressing their environment, but I wasn't expecting her to drop in bits of local speech.

You say nothing's worse than an American attempting a bad British accent, but you haven't heard me trying to do a New Zealand one!

Hi Erin,

No worries! I understood exactly what you meant! But, I know when not to get in over my head!
