Arsène Lupin versus Herlock Sholmes by Maurice Leblanc (1864 - 1941). Translated by George Morehead ( - )

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/arsene-lupin-versus-herlock-sholmes-by-maurice-leblanc/
The story of an exciting test of wits between world-class thief Arsène Lupin and master detective Herlock Sholmes. Translated from the French.
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/40203
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

In order to set this up, we'll need to know how many sections you'll want. Usually this is the number of chapters plus any preface(s), unless the chapters are really long (over 10,000-12,000 words, or about an hour of recording time). The number can be changed (you can add sections, and your MC can delete sections), but we need a starting number. :)

Well, there are 8 chapters and the first one runs just shy of 7700 words. I think it should be doable in 8 sections, shouldn't it?

Yes, I believe so. You're welcome to split them into parts 1 and 2 if you feel they're too long, but 7700 words is definitely OK for a section. :)

I'll set this up.

Detailed Instructions for accessing the Magic Window (once I get it set up) can be found in the document linked below:
Instructions for Soloists

Videos showing how to use the Magic Window (read the above document first - it has the information on how to log in for the first time, which this does not have):

When you submit a chapter, put the file duration in the Notes field and the uploaded URL into the Listen URL field, and mark it from Assigned to Ready for PL.

Absolutely! From what I've seen in it the only French is in the names of people and places.

Great first chapter!

Intro - the intro didn't meet the opening post exactly but since it's a solo it's fine. Just pointing it out. No changes required.

19:18 repeat - "Nothing! He shall have nothing!" he exclaimed, before

Ending silence - for recordings longer than 30 minutes we need 10 seconds of ending silence. Please extend to reach that goal.

Spot check PL OK!

In the future please be sure to update the status workflow to Ready for Spot PL. That way the file will show up in the listing in case I miss the comment in the thread.

Progress update:

Recorded Chapter 2 today, but it'll be a few days before I can edit and upload it, the holidays being what they are. Just wanted to assure you that the project is moving forward. :)

Happy Holidays!
