The Mystery of the Sycamore by Carolyn Wells (1862 - 1942).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-mystery-of-the-sycamore-by-carolyn-wells/
Instead of prison time, former governor, Samuel Appleby, sentences his former rival, Daniel Wheeler to imprisonment on his homestead with a very strange addendum.

He then endeavors to convince Mr. Wheeler to endorse his son’s candidacy for governor with a promise of commuting his sentence. In the meantime, Samuel Appleby is murdered in Wheeler’s home.

The discovery of the identity of the murderer has many twists and turns filled with love, devotion, gumshoe dialog, and weird circumstances that will delight the listener in a most unusual way. (Summary by Sharon Kilmer)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/50209
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I am so glad. I won't be starting it until I finish "Red Money" and I just need to edit last chapter & we're on our way.

Thanks again,
Sharon

Hi John,

Sharon set this up as a solo project SHE is recording; she is not looking for other readers. However, if you would like to do a solo project of your own, find a book you would like to record and then head off to this link to find the instructions for setting it up: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=13513

At first, I saw the "rkilmer" and the first sentence and thought, "Wow, Richard has finally lost it!"

Chapter 1 is ready for review. Women have come a long way since then, thank goodness.

Chapter 1 is PL OK!

I see what you mean, I'll remember this book was written by a woman and hope that outdated viewpoint changes in this story. :)

Hi,
I've PL'ed chap 2 and there's a difference you may want to check:

at 22:31 heard “irrespectful” in “will be entirely irrespective of the character or personality of that young man."

You can leave it as is, if you prefer. The rest of the file is very good. Interesting chapter.
